I think the nail was hit on the head whe it was said that Thais control their emotions.
I mentioned earlier about Stephen Leathers book Private Dancer. Whilst the characters are over the top eg larger than life I think there is an element of truth in all the characters.
I have certainly loved one girl (still do) but because of baggage 4 kids from a previous marrage could not give a real commitment seen her on and off for about a year and half. What spoilt it was me trying to avoid falling in love by going with other girls until she got pissed off about it and told me she not go with me again.
If they just see us purely as ATM's why did she tell me she did not want to see me again. I would have still gone with her giving her money and I was v-generous with her (bought clothes, jewlery etc) so why would she just give this source of income up.?????
Matbe she did care for me and like any woman who likes a man farang or otherwise when he cheats and hurts their feelings she ditches him....

i can see where you are coming from.
there are 3 girls i did and still have many feelings for,in fact i did love them.
i know it is not the done thing for a falang to admit to falling in love,but shit happens.
yes,many girls think of us as ATM's and i cannot blame them.
imagine what they have to put up with each and everyday.
i have been lucky enough to meet girls who were some of the best people i have ever met.
2 in particular did'nt want money from me,just wanted to be with me.
and 2 girls wanted my baby.

It's hard to generalize because not all girls have had the same experiences. I have been with girls that I know didn't love me and just my wallet, I have been with girls that have told me they love someone else (real erection softener), and I have been with girls that genuinely love me. The girl I am currently infatuated with, Angel, I know is in love with me (anyone within 100yds of us can tell that) and I don't think I am being "dooped" by her. She still works because she has to take care of bills but keeps that special place for me.
So it is possible and it's all relative to the girl's and your situation. I would say the majority of girls use the men as they are used (it's only fair) but I am sure all of them have someone special in their hearts, why couldn't it be you?

One sad way to confirm your doubts that she was really in love with you, or at least in the process of getting there (everything is going fine, except...you have these doubts about she being sincere and what you see being the real thing) is when you see that she starts to change and also those good signals that you were receiving that you had doubts about start to become more spaced in time and then ..... dissapear altogether and she becomes more distant day by day.
Then you have no more doubts. Now you know she is not in love with you. Because you moron screwed it by having those doubts before. No matter how nice you thought you were, those doubts somehow were eating you inside and somehow ended up affecting how you interacted with the girl -not as nice as you may have done otherwise. And a result, she grew discontent and fell out of love or at the very least of the "I am really getting to like this guy" process.
Now looking back, you know she was really liking you. And now when you know and are convinced, now you want to go back to where you were at the time of your doubts. But now it is too late. She is gone now.
Shit! I know about this. The above happened to me here. The only one I have really fallen for here in Thailand, I kept finding reasons not to believe her, and kept convincing me that it had to be my wallet she liked. When I was able to confirm that I had been wrong, it was too late. Now, even her friends tell me what a good chance I blew -why the idiots didn't tell me at the time?

whilst without doubt, most are very street smart, I dont think its unfair to say many TGs have an emotional level of a 12/13 yr old western girl ... .. something that is hard for older farang Guys to comprehend, however, I think for certain, many do genuinely fall in love with Farangs, often it is the answer to there dreams, security, a luk Krung etc etc, - and these are girls, who because of there social status, otherwise would probably have to settle for the local samlor driver ... I know a couple of instances, in my younger days, where a few "slash marks' on the wrist area of certain TGs, were dedicated to me ! - have a look, a surprisingly high number of them do have a slash at the wrist when the love of their life leaves them, fortunately, in true thai style, they dont usually slash too hard !

Fortunately, besides slashing hard or soft, I guess also lack of knowleadge accounts for us seeing the marks (had they succeeded we wouldnt be seeing them). Wrist slashing is not an effective suicide method because most people do not know how to do it in the way that increases their chances. People think a simple cut accross does the trick. Very rarely it does.
I think I will stop here. I do not need to say what is the effective way to slash. Better not to.

Sorry back to topic-
met a very nice girl on my last trip and stayed with her for all of 5 days. I think I could be forgiven for thinking that she loves me. I grew quite fond of her and still call her occasionally. She sends me e-mails with pictures of us together (jeez, the things I do when I'm off my face).
She can speak only about 6 words of english but she had a strange way of making me roughly understand what she meant when she was talking to me in rapid fire Thai. She carried a well thumbed book of English Thai conversation with all the sort of lines that a TG would say to a falang and vice versa. Leading me to believe that there could well be a dozen or so guys like me.
So far I have not ben hit up for money or any such thing and that keeps me still interested in her. But I've noticed she sends me 2 kinds of e-mails:
the first type are written by her.. these are very raw and extremely charming (eg. 'My dear ____, how r u? For you I wish only good things...'
the second type sound a little more polished with near perfect grammar. These are more pc and are probably penned by a pro...maybe one of her more seasoned friends.
So whether she loves me or not? I think its easy to think they love you, but I hope mine doesn't. Because I big buttafy, you know.
