My 2 cents info of the day:
For bar girls in Austria too its usual to refer another girl as a sister even if she has no familial link at all, especially if she is from the same country (ex: Slovenia)
So i think that this "sister" thing has nothing to do with ASIAN culture but all to do with BAR culture....

Being here for only a few days, I have been introduced to lots of sisters. Besides the word being used to refer to a blood-relative, IMHO it also refers to someone who is more than a friend. The girls give me the impression that they are very close and will look after the newer ones. Now and then when I bar fine a girl, I will see her give some money to other girls. She explains to me that the other ones have no customers.
