Thai girls are best off in Thailand.
My first wife is Japanese, not a BG, she worked for a large (now defunct) securities firm in Osaka, and after I brought her to No.Virginia, she quickly landed a job at the Japanese Embassy. But she very rapidly became very Americanized, and her friends taught her how to hose me over. Not a fun experience.

Guys I thought we came here because we were escaping our former Western wifes, why would anyone want to get married in Thailand. By the way there are several different levels of being married here. The best is the village wedding, where all it costs is a little gold and whiskey for Papa, and no paperwork completed, but everyone is happy and gains face. Great Deal.

I have been married with 2 thaigirls and taking them to Europe. The first one was a real bloodsucker, she was never happy anyhow much money I gave here. She also was extramly jalous. Still we were together for 7 years before I ended it.
My second whife is yust the opposite, a hard worker and very carefull with our spendings. She hardly ever ask for any money and is always very fair regarding to our spendings with here family. She has a well payed job but she has never changed her thai behavior.
She is also very understanding and caring , she even lets me go to Thailand 2-4 times a year for sanuk. And when we are there together she joins in on the fun.
From day one I have been very open to here and explained to here that the sanuk is one part of my life and that this was something she had to accept.
We have now been married for 9 years and happier than ever.
Bouth my wifes was girls working in the beer bars.

Once a Thai wife or girlfriend accepts that her position is secure against all candidates, it is VAGUELY possible for the hot flaming jealousy to cool down. It is EXTREMELY RARE however to achieve an accomodation with a wife whereby the husband can say "Darling, I'm going to go out tonight for a bit of strange."
But it is also very hard to keep them from sensing what you are doing, as they are neither blind nor stupid. Come home freshly showered at 2 AM eh? Thai wives can probably tell what ST hotel you were at by the scent of the soap.

Hello all -
I find the topic of Thai wives to be endlessly fascinating.
There are enough horror stories out there to scare anybody off, yet some people DO make a go out of it. Even in a country like mine where winters are long and cold, there are some Thai wives around.
I know one fellow who has been happily married for twelve years now; his comment is "they're really not the shrinking violets that people think they are". I couldn't agree more, after reading some of the comments in this forum!
It's very difficult for a TG to even visit Canada. I believe they have to have the equivalent of $4000 CDN in the bank before they can apply for a visa, and there are other stringent conditions as well. Best to enjoy their charms in the home country and leave it at that.

Great post. I agree that marrying any person from another culture, regardless of their background, will cause special difficulties. Not to say that people should not interacial or interculturally marry. Just that is one does decide to, be prepared for those special circumstances.
Like an A.B.C marrying and M.I.T. Same race, but different cultures!!!

Yust make sure you marry a buddist girl and not a muslim. All buddist are very open minded towars other cultures and religions.
The only problem we have had is that other people in my contry have problems accepting here/us. That might just be of fair of other cultures or perhaps jalousy. Since you(intlasspirate ) plann to stay in Thailand this will not be a problem.
Treat her and her family with respect and love and you will be a king in her BAN. She will love you for the nice man you are(?) and not your money. When looking for your wife you dont need to tell here that you have much money.

Assuming that the proportion of Islamic BGs is about the same as in the general population -- and it may be way less -- then your odds of encountering one are only about 1 in 20. And a whole lot of Thai moslems are not at all fundamentalist, they drink, smoke, fool around etc. I've known guys happily married to Thai moslem girls. I should say, one guy.
Still I would have to guess that that was pretty good advice.

CJE, As an agnostic student of religion, I've found that Thai Islam, like Thai Buddhism and Thai Catholicism are all pretty lax compared to their counterparts in other countries. To (over)simplify: At the end of the day I think "Mai Ben Lai" pretty much trumps all other considerations. (Or at least seeps into everything - thus the Thailand that we love and hate.)
