I basically agree with Arcadius when he says that the concept of beauty depends on your own social/cultural environments more than anything else.
And I definitely agree with Atypical that after few drinks, especially after 2:00 AM, all the girls seems to be prettier than before.
But I believe also that in the P4P scene the quotes are ruled by the same laws as for any other business:
offer-demand has nothing to do with beauty most of the times.
In the P4P market the appeal is the key word, not the beauty.
That explains why loud clothes, heavy make up, breast prothesis and fluorescent hair colours result as irresistible appeals for the farang costumers in a very competitive market, as it is for go-go's and bars.
Other different things may jump in the eyes of the local costumers.
And the girls that invest their savings in such things results to be more expensive also.
But this has nothing to do with beauty.
Freaks have a powerful appeal (especially in farangland), and not for their beauty for sure.
As for some members in this forum, I feel to be pretty out of the market trends: being an insatiable dreamer I look for beauty, that one that comes from my background... and too complicate to describe it now.
And I found it, behind 1 inch of make up (sometimes), behind surgery jobs (rarely), behind attitude (most of the times).

Öbeauty in the eye of the beholder
When it comes to the beauty of girls or even people in general I realize more and more that even the eye of the beholder (beer-holder, ComicNihilist, I love this one - lol!) is something unstably.
For me this is very much depending on my momentarily condition - my good or bad day.
On a good day Iím sometimes surprised how beautiful the people around me are - and this works perfectly for girls in general and TBG in particular. I enter a GoGo at NEP and canít help smiling happy like a baby facing all the beauty and all available - whow.
On a bad day even relatively beautiful TG don't really attract me. I enter the same GoGo at NEP and find myself in a miserable state and none of the cuties really appeals to me. I find them all boring at least. Normally I just quit with that day and go to bend then.
It is very hard to find out which trick can change the quality of a day for you, but I experienced that even small and smaller events or even sights can do the trick. Sometimes it helps to just relax for a while and ìgroundî yourself ñ sometimes it doesnít. Quite often the famous ìpower of a smileî you manage to create on your own face (and thereby mind) can do the job, sometimes you just end up grinning like a fool. There is no easy way, no magic pill to do itÖ
My resume might be: the more you smile at LOS the more you see beautiful and more beautiful TG everywhere, in bars, MP and on the street. It might also help to get rid of the sex-business-man-attitude and start to look at the Thai people in general and to see and treat all the TG involved in the sex-business with all respect.

I think that's an excellent point about mood altering your perceptions. Sometimes you're in an expansive & generous frame of mind, sometimes you're just cramped and hypercritical. Obviously, booze tends to make most people more easygoing. Dope even more so.
There are many other factors, too. Not everyone goes for the 'glamour queen' look 3cazzi describes - some of us much prefer 'em girl-next-doorsy instead. I suspect this is a major divide in the male half of the human race. Then there are the quirks and eccentricities of individual taste. Personally, I like slightly goofy girls-next-door, Diane Keaton style. It's not the most conventional of tastes, but that's no disadvantage.
Then, of course, there's the all-important distinction between beauty and sex appeal. I'm sure we've all seen women we know are gorgeous but just don't do it for us, and other women we know only just past muster but for some reason ring our bell loud and clear. Personal rapport, personality or even body language etc usually have a lot to do with this, but I think it can sometimes be purely physical as well.
Anyway, thank God we don't all have the same tastes or most of us would be stuffed. Ý

I agree that perception of reality is always filtered by our mind's architecture and state, but this doesn't allow us to define beauty whatever we like.
As the Classics stated, beauty is a fact while taste is an opinion.
We are free to dislike Leonardo's Mona Lisa, but the fact that it is a masterpiece is not, and cannot be, on discussion.
If I am starving to death, I can eat shit and feel better, but it doesn't mean shit = good food, obviously.
Eyes are just an optical instrument between reality and our minds, when mind prevail on reality we call it illusion, altered vision, phobias and other different ways.
Depending on the percentage of prevalence, we can even call it insanity.
Just not to quote only the Classics, Desmond Morris' studies demonstrate that the perception of human beauty have something in common between different cultures and different ages.
He found the essentials that compose the objective beauty, which are even extendible to many animals.
Those elements, which work like subliminal irresistible appeals for beauty definition, they can be emphasised in different ways (depend on the cultures): skin and eyes make up just to say the most common.
Physical beauty is the basic appeal to generate feelings like commotion or admiration.
But, cannot induces to sexual excitement without the complex of other appeals, when it happens it is just because a perversion.
In fact, to activate the the will of sexual action, there must be other signals such as availability, fertility, health and so on.
Lipstick just to quote the most common for availability.
And that's why very competitive environments push girls (even to injure themselves) to have that mix of things that would turn any Diane Keaton in a sex bomb.
Those signals as well, have something universal that have the same effect on any of us, the difference is just in the way those things are emphasised.
When over - emphasised they look freaky to me... when I am sober.

Read these books -you will probably like them:
* The Mating Mind: How Sexual Choice Shaped the Evolution of Human Nature, by Geoffrey F. Miller
* The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins
* The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature by Matt Ridley
Better reads than Morris -who is good, but too superficial if you are really into this matter (believe you me) and who in my opinion doesnt deserve to be called a classic yet. Of those named above, I would only say Dawkins is at the classic level (he was the first who came up with the now widely used term "meme" ).

Let me say that I didn't mean to mention Desmond Morris as a classic. What I appreciate about him is the attitude of studying humans behave as one of the many animals on earth.
As Classics I meant the Greek philosophers of the Classic period.

Well, in advance of reading these tomes, I can only say that if beauty is a fact, someone should have told Botticelli and Rubens, because as sure as f_ck they seemed to gave reached some mighty different conclusions.
OK, perfect regularity of features, the 'average' face, etc etc. I suppose for a farang, this type of beauty would be summed up by Greek statuary - the Venus de Milo & so on. Which, as an impenitent barbarian, I am happy to invite you to keep. Utterly ininvolving, and not a patch on yer slightly above-average Thai GG dancer. Then again, who needs the Parthenon when you've got a half-decent Gothic cathedral...
Don't think I've seen Goodbar. Anyway, I'm thinking of the younger, Woody Allen vintage Keaton. Who is OK, but not a patch on that even goofier botanist girl in that wonderful film with Walter Matthau whose name escapes me completely. Paroxysms of hysterical lust (for the girl, not Matthau) - and she's not even Asian! I don't suppose Praxiteles would have liked her very much, but I can live with that. Ý

At the risk of getting too poetic, a lot of the esteem shared here for TGs sems to be recognition of a certain quality of inner truth (despite their e-mails).
