It is definetly right to warn michaelb on possible threats, it is definetly wrong to scare somebody who already is scared and fears about his life. The possibility this girl will and can do anything to his health is as low as the risk of being hit by the famous flowerpot.

What went on in the hotel room was not the usual 'scam'between a bar girl and her customer.

For peace of mind, change your hotel. Other than that farangs all look the same to Thais so there's little chance that you would be identified away from the hotel.

But then again, after re-reading the "field report," this is actually a situation where the fellow didn't rip the girl off (according to the code of the street, to use an awful cliche). I don't want to generalize about all violent situations regarding bar girls, but generally you won't get knifed (or whatever, by whoever) unless you actually rip them off.
Such as.... you agree to a X price, and you don't pay X price even after you have consumed 'the product'.
Basically theft to you and me... only since the product becomes intangible after the fact, it makes a few ignorant or selfish few tempted to become thieves.
If you didn't do her (consume the product), in most NORMAL situations, you'd be fine and clear. Your only actual danger would be if she is indeed CRAZY. Which is possible, but not likely (many crazy ones yes.... but crazy enough to kill or injure strangers is not common). But that's just my experience.
*note, crazy.... can also mean extremely unbalanced mentally. This can happen if she is under extreme financial duress or just found out she has AIDS or something of that nature. Those type of things are wild cards with effects uncertain.

i do know the management and mamasans of mandarin very well! first time i hear something coming up like this. i am aware that some girls are a bit unstable especially when they do get their period.
but i can assure if you would talk to the mamasan aboutthe incident you would 1.) get your money back and there will be 2.) a tough talk with the girl concerned as the guys running mandarin and various other places have to much to loose to risk all that for a girl.
do you remember her name as i am not familiar with their numbers but their names!
try to tallk with the management of mandarin they will take care of this. in 80% of the cases things would have calmed down the next day anyway, but i am still surprised about her behaviour, are you sure nothing else happened in between?

before i comment, this is what i would have done. and its solely from my own point of view and this does not serve as an advise or suggestion to another body else!!!
firstly, i'll take the threat seriously and i will move to a new location but i'll never find peace knowing i'm being watched!! the next thing i would do is to go back to the Bar and confront the Tg together with her mamasan and hopefully the manager or the owner of the Bar!! question her if she had remember what she had said or done and make her repeat the thret again!! by now things will be looking ugly, but i'm playing a mind game, she works there and what can she do? i'm sure they will stop her before she drives away more customers!!! i'll access from this situation, if shes' regretting what she had done and said, i'll slap her with a couple thousand Baht worth of damage she had done to my room!! with her job at risk and money to think off, she's probaly let things cool off!!
again this is my own opinion, and if thinks doesnt turn out as i had wanted, i guess i probaly be chased out of the bar with a few crazy TGs and some empty beer bottles!!! but i might be back.......

To reiterate: As I said in my first post, more than likely the girl would never trouble you again. She's probably not completely whacked.
But what if she is? I mean, more than likely the girl you take isn't HIV positive -- but what if she is? Same thing; You take sensible precautions and eliminate the potential threat.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the advice - situation settled now. I met an expat yesterday sitting in the bar and explained what had happened.......he knows several of the owners of clubs at NEP, and spent the afternoon with me speaking with a couple of them...at around 7 last night, he went with me to Mandarin, spoke with mamasan and manager.....all is well and settled with the girl.....she had cooled down (f_ck, probably drugs or some shit, who knows)....anyway,
all is resolved with no loss of face for any parties involved.
So, all is fine, met a great new friend that I got shitfaced with last night, showed me around, a great guy....appreciate all of your suggestions. Off to Pattaya today, then back to BK later in week....sure I will forget about this entirely by tomorrow morning....amazing how fast a few new girls can make one forget about bad experiences

This is all bullshit.
Assuming that this girl demanded money for doing nothing (and probably, made up the story about being on the rag too), then pulled a knife, she should never be allowed to work in a bar again. Certainly the management of the particular bar should unceremoniously 86 her ass and inform all of the other NEP management WHY.
Instead, she is just going to pull this crap on some other customer. We may never hear about it as it is unlikely he will be a forumite.
Michaelb ought to have indeed summoned JWM security, and they, the Thonglor police and the Tourist Police, the girl should have been charged with assault and extortion. The knife if more than a pen knife length is ILLEGAL and NEP like all such places is a WEAPONS FREE ZONE.
Need I tell you what a Thai customer would have done to her? Hospitalized her and maybe scarred her for life with her own blade, that's what.
That girl, yeah, probably on yaa baa, and if so, off to the money house for that too. Wanna bet she had some on her? Anyway the blood test if positive would have been enough to get her butt thrown into a rehab center.
There is no excuse for violent, extortionate behavior by a bar girl. None. Make an example out of her, instead of letting the management coddle her. "Pour l'encouragement les autres."
This is the state of play at NEP? Then f_ck NEP. ALL of NEP, till they clean up their own act.
