Aircrest. Wrap it up anyway you like. She trusted you with her child and you betrayed that trust. Rather than have the child's interests at heart you simply used him as a weapon against her. Ever wonder what it was like for her to lose her child - her only family? Taken by the rich farang to a foreign world never to return. You should be so proud.

A few people are lucky the girls didn't have the right word from the wrong person. If the father has a big enough income, there's a chance that a do-gooder divorce lawyer will take the case in farangland on a contingency basis or even pro bono. Communications are considered part of normal marital relations and if the mother can demonstrate to a court that she made the effort and the father cannot and did not, things could get awfully ugly for papa's bank account. If the girl's enough of a mercenary bitch to disappear overnight during married cohabitation, there's even less chance of her staying her hand if she learns there's a chance to get in your wallet and stick you with the kid, too. Considering that the females in these situations usually prove to be unstable losers, then I give props to the dads for taking on single parenthood. Just think how good mom's judgement and parenting skills would be after a few thousand more litres of cheap whiskey or a few more kilograms of yaa baa.

Minder, Interesting point, I've talked to BG about the Thai father not having any contact with his kid after the breakup. Normal seems to be no contact and if the father has the kid the reverse seems to be true. I get the feeling, out of sight, out of mind. Hard for any of us to figure out if this was a good move. I guess you had to be there.

I do not know Aircrest's individual circumstances so I will make no judgemental post. As for me, my daughter's mother (my ex-wife) was cut off from my funds when she walked out the door with her new-found Thai boyfriend. Her mother has made no effort to see her or contact her since April of 2000. I have held my daughter as she cried herself to sleep wondering why her mother doesn't want to see her so feeling sorry for the mother is not on my list of things to worry about. Every time we return I make an effort to locate her mother to no avail. We simply have no idea where she went or where she might be. I have legal custody of my daughter as agreed by my ex and the Thai courts. I will waste no time looking for her this trip. That's my situation and I doubt frankly if Aircrest's is much different.

I think there is a difference when one person is walking away from the child and another one is when the decission is forced on the person. One thing is called abandoning the child, the other one can be called kidnapping -regardless of how willing a party the 9 year old is. I based my comment on aircrest's own words: the mother tried to contact them, but they did not reply. To me this sounds as the facts were enforced on the mother. I have a daughter, also the same age of expat's -sadly for me she lives with the mother on the other side of the world, but despite my past differences with the mother (in all kind of things), she has always been good at encouraring our daughter to keep strong links and bonds with me. She does this most likely not for me, but probably because she thinks is the best thing for our daughter. Regardless the reason, I think that is the right thing to do, and I consider myself lucky on that my ex-wife has been so good on that department.

Smegs: I agree and I was not being critical of your post. I have always told my daughter that her mother loved her and that she was just unable to come see her. At some point in time, however, your children become mature enough to see through this and realize that if your mother only lives one hour away, she could come see you if she wanted to. I am leaving my daughter in Pattaya this trip rather than bring her back here with me. The locals have added two more sandbagged machine gun positions in front of our compound in addition to the three humvees and I am just feeling it is too constrictive on her here. We have discussed the possibility of her mother showing up after I return to SA and wanting to take her for a few days. My daughter now says she does not wish to go with her and would stay at home. I would say her mother has caused her own hate and discontent in this case. I retire in May and will be there full time thereafter. I will never tell my daughter her mother does not love her but I will not bother to try and find her mother again either.

I have held my daughter as she cried herself to sleep wondering why her mother doesn't want to see her so feeling sorry for the mother is not on my list of things to worry about ------------------------------------- I could have gone into a lot of detail on this, but first of all I always believe a child should be raised by his mother when ever possible. She has always known where he is, but every letter has asked for money. Not once was there a birthday card or any mention in a letter about her son. Never asked about school or even asked for a picture. There was an alcohol and gambling problem in this story also. You have no idea the tears that have been shed over a lousy birthday card. I have never never spoken against his mother. The decisions made were his and only his. He has had the opportunity to return at any time and if his mother would have asked could have come to the states to see him. It was never my intent to seperate a child from his mother, but on the other hand will not use force to put him on an airplane back to Thailand. It would have taken a straight jacket, handcuffs and three body guards to get him on an airplane. There is more to this story then I will ever know and do not care to ask and I do believe a 9 year old should be able to make choices. It was not my plan in life to have a child, kidnap him and raise him by myself, but it is my true belief she wanted the child for financial ties.

Smegma I agree with what you said, but will clarify some points. The letters were only a request for money. she never mentioned her son or asked how he was doing. Three years ago I received another letter for money. Again no mention of her son, however I sent pictures and a long discription of what he was doing. To the same address sent High School graduation announcement and College graduation announcements. I also sent pictures of both graduations and pictures of him with his airplanes. No response. She sold the townhouse and car without discussing it with me. Probably to feed the gambling and alcohol problem. If he did go back where would they live. Start over and buy another townhouse. Not likely I spent Thanksgiving with him and told him I was going back to Thailand in Feb. I said want me to go find your mother and all he did was give me a dirty look. You see there is much more to this story that I do not even know.
