This survey/story appeared in the Daily mirror and fits the 'other races' of the thread title. I edited it down but it is still a little long.

TU, if you object to it being in your thread I will edit it out.

THE BI GENERATION

Aug 2 2004 By Jane Ridley

THEY'RE the "anything goes" generation of female clubbers who get their kicks from snogging other women on the dancefloor - to the delight of many male onlookers.

Nearly a third of Britain's female revellers consider themselves bisexual and almost half have had some sort of sexual experience with another woman, ranging from kissing to fondling and full sex.

These are the revealing findings of an exclusive Daily Mirror survey of 1,000 women across the UK who regularly go to clubs. We found that 57 per cent of those who consider themselves bisexual are "dabblers", who have the occasional fling with a woman. But 23 per cent say that it's a serious lifestyle choice.

Our researchers questioned the partygoers in 10 towns and cities, from London to Glasgow, Belfast to Newcastle, Oxford to Manchester. The youngest was 16 and the average age was 25.

And it seems the hedonistic clubbing scene fuels bisexual behaviour, since 31 per cent of liaisons happen during or after chance meetings in clubs.

The results show that 49 per cent of women who had a bisexual experience tried it once. A third do it occasionally and 17 per cent have a bisexual encounter more than once a month.

Four in 10 stop at kissing, while a third would go as far as fondling. A fifth have full sex and eight per cent have gone on to have a same-sex relationship.

Asked what most influenced their behaviour, a third identified alcohol, 18 per cent said it was the "clubbing atmosphere" and nine per cent revealed it was drugs.

Twenty per cent said that they were influenced by the thought they had "always felt bisexual".

Five per cent admitted they were copying the example of celebrity bisexuals and the same percentage did it to titillate men they fancied.

"It's a great way of turning men on," said one respondent. "If you snog a girl, it's like snapping your fingers - the guys will instantly chat you up. It's a great laugh."

Nearly a third of clubbers who haven't had a bisexual experience admit to fantasising about it, with 40 per cent planning to act out their fantasy in the near future. One girl said: "I think my bisexuality has always been on a subconscious level. But now I want to do something about it."

Our survey also threw up some distinct regional differences. For example, Leeds has the highest percentage of bisexual clubbers, with 44 per cent saying they like women as well as men. Of these, nearly two thirds said it was something they were dabbling in. Meanwhile, Newcastle has the highest number of women who have had a bisexual experience, with half of Geordies admitting to it.

The least number of bisexuals live in Bristol - just 10 per cent - while Belfast has the highest number of bisexual women who insist it is "a serious lifestyle choice" (39 per cent). A quarter of Glaswegian women consider themselves bisexual.

Sexpert Suzie Hayman, who's an agony aunt and counsellor, says the findings reflect the huge rise in the number of bisexual women in Britain.

"Most 20- and 30-somethings can't quite see the fuss made by previous generations about homosexuality," she says. "We're far more into recreational sex these days - understanding that sex isn't just to make babies but also about fun, pleasure and love.

"Girls can experience that with the opposite sex and the same sex - there's no real difference. And there's an added bonus that bisexuality is often a turn-on for men.

"My view is that the majority of people are neither 100 per cent straight nor gay. Most are somewhere between. And many people shift up and down that line, inclining more towards the same sex or the opposite sex.

"It all depends on where they are, who they're with and how they're feeling at the time." Suzie says that other research showed the vast majority of people - both female and male - often fantasise about gay sex.

In fact, it is one of the most common fantasy scenarios.

"Young women out clubbing are likely to feel experimental and give it a go, without caring what the older generation may be tut-tutting about," she adds.

"Drink and the atmosphere of the nightclubs may spur them on but bisexual liaisons are something that they've always been curious or fantasised about.

"Now they have 'permission' to act on that. There is no social stigma, because most of them simply don't see it as anything to worry about."

Stars such as Madonna have helped fuel the trend of "bisexual chic" by staging sexy, headline-grabbing stunts with other women.

The 45-year-old mother-of-two published her first book, Sex, 12 years ago featuring photos of her in same-sex threesomes. She also romped with model Amanda Cazalet in the explicit Justify My Love video.

These days, bisexual women are rarely the so-called "dyke-type", with a heavy build and masculine looks.
Instead, they are well-groomed career girls, typified by Sharon Stone's bisexual character Catherine Tramell in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct.

A number of events companies are tapping into the lucrative bisexual market, including Cake, a club for "sexually-liberated women" where many female guests dress in designer lingerie and kiss openly on the dancefloor. Men can only attend if they are invited by a woman on the guest list and females often outnumber males by six to one.

The Daily Mirror's survey supports increasing evidence that bisexuality is soaring in the UK.

A recent internet poll of 700 teenage girls revealed that nearly half had kissed another female - or would if they had the chance. Even though most said they had been drunk at the time, 20 per cent admitted that they actually fancied the girl involved.

Sarah Garrett, editor of G3, a magazine for lesbian and bisexual women says that this trend has been growing for some time.

She explains: "The number of young women defining themselves as bisexual - rather than either heterosexual or lesbian - seems to have developed hugely within the past three years."

Thanks TU, but as I was reading the article, I thought, jeez men are never gonna catch up to women.

First they got the multiple orgasm thing going.
Second they are 'always ready'. Never have to get it up.
Then they don't have to be of any 'size',
hell the smaller the pussy the more we like it.

Well I guess we might have gained back some ground
with drug assisted erections. But that didn't last long.

Now, women seem to adding to their sexual oportunities by factoring in, quite casually, another sex.

Any red blooded man would have to turn bi himself just
to be on numerical equal footing.

And nope. I am not going to do that.

So I guess I will have to be content with coming second place in the sex opportunities race with women.

PS....this is where all those homophobic posting posers pop in LB jokes and anal humour, passing as put downs.
At least some original material please

I have always thought that bi sexual people have a huge advantage...they can walk into a room and have sex with anyone they see. Being a straight guy is a numerical detriment....but it is my place to be and it is where I will make several women very happy...and they never need to worry about me coming home with dick breath.......I think chicks dig that!

Wasn't it Jung who said all women are bisexuals? Maybe it's Christian (or Islam, or Hinduism, or Judaism) guilt and social norms that stop many women from expressing there urges in other cultures.

Wasn't it Jung who said all women are bisexuals?

Excerpt from "Introduction to Jung":

"Jung, like Freud and Adler and others, felt that we are all really bisexual in nature. When we begin our lives as fetuses, we have undifferentiated sex organs that only gradually, under the influence of hormones, become male or female. Likewise, when we begin our social lives as infants, we are neither male nor female in the social sense. Almost immediately -- as soon as those pink or blue booties go on -- we come under the influence of society, which gradually molds us into men and women."

...and BTF influences further...
