Hmmm, may I remind about one thing?
The younger brother of my former Thai gf - the day before I arrived 2 winters ago she mailed me and said "cannot meet you in the airport - my younger brother was shot to death last night".
When I was there one evening she suddenly got a call - a friend of that brother had just been shot.
A friend I met last winter, her brother has several times threatened to shoot her.
One e-mailfriend I will meet in 2 weeks in BKK, she was just at her home village and had to stay for several nights with a friend, whose husband was shot a month ago.
A bargirl who has just lost both money and face to YOU, Ýif she decides to find out who made this idiotic thing - well, I would move my ass to a place where I am not recognized by anyone who could identify you in that environment. If she found you I am not sure I would cry.

I got that part - I was just amazed that a person could experience that many death situations in that period of time!
It's like a karma thing and it would make me very nervous, or at least very spooked, if I ran into that many death oriented situations - 
Is that a common occurance for BKK, or LOS for that matter?
I was in Phenom Phen during the Khmer Rouge thing and that was pretty ugly, but that was war time and LOS is not at war.
In fact, I saw on CNN that Pol Pot finally died - in his sleep.
Can you believe that?
I don't think the recent BKK police activity regarding APEC can be considered war - unless they continue their interference after APEC!!
Closing NANA, Soi Cowboy, all the mp's, beer bars, go-go places and etc would definitely be cause for an invasion!

I don't recall reading much about local crimes (murders, etc.) on the newspaper (The Nation) when I was in BKK. ÝI am sure they happen just as frequently as any other big cities but perhaps the local English paper chose not to report them.
