Doing well, dumped the house in Silicon Valley after the bottom dropped out of the economy there, so a good time for me to unload and reorg my life a tad. Ironically, people are still paying top dollar for houses there. Been camped here for the last 6 months, working on some business ideas (not a bad place to be in interim).
Also helping my TGF finish up her last year of mattayom (high school) to get her G.E.D. After that, she has to figure out what she wants to do.
It's a real challenge teaching her polynomial functions, when some of her earlier, less enthusiastic teachers neglected to teach here some basic things, like the number line, and why when you subtract a negative number, you get a more positive number. At the moment, we're going over factoring numbers to more easily get their square roots. Fortunately, there is enough math in the books, and her English is good enough (and my Thai bad enough, lol!) that we seem to be making headway.
Not sure what she do with all the Cartesian and Polar coordinates in her head once she finishes next March, but at least she's seen it and can now be considered somewhat educated, even by Western standards.
But from what I've seen in the past 3 years, she's pretty much the exception to the rule. Some of her friends from the business, but not many, have matriculated out of the scene and have long term boyfriends/husbands. Some even have children by them and are very happy. Very few have gone back to school (no incentive, given their age and the way things are structured here). The success rate seems to be higher with those that come from European countries without the hurdles you would see at, for example, the American embassy. They get to come and go more, and gain a more global perspective on their situations.
BTW nokna, I was moved by your recent description of the ladies that had been in and out of your life here, and those you keep in touch with. It's what prompted me to get off my lazy arse and post a bit. Your phone calls upcountry remind me of some of what I see in my TGF's village, so it rang a bell there.
I'll be heading back home for Xmas, to clean up some things Statesside for a couple of months, then back here, for another "hardship posting" lol! Like the olde maxim says, "make money elsewhere, spend it here." Still trying to live by that until the day comes when I really retire here.

The good thing is I live in a serviced apartment with plenty of beer downstairs, last night I just sit on the balcony drinking again, it sure is a long way down, maybe just slitting the wrists in the tub is a better option. I took a girl from another bar at nana short time saturday night took her to cowboy to the other bar where her friend was outside with the sign and introduced her as my wife. She hurt me, so I thought I'd try to piss her off a little. Now, I feel even worse. Back to drinking!

Pretty shitty thing to do to top yourself in such a way that you leave a big mess for someone else to clean up. Try poisoning yourself, or feed yourself to the fishes.
Of course, if you keep on doing face jobs like that to the Thai ladies, you're more likely to end up a homicide victim.

The 'Love-send-money' system survives because there is always a new generation to experience love with a TG.
I suppose now I am cynical as I see and hear the pattern repeat itself. (Keep your ears flapping in any Internet shop and hear the phone calls to 'tilac' or the translated e-mails)
My cynicism says that most Thai girls have a continuous Thai boyfriend in tow or back in the village.
They receive money from any number of 'Loves' from Germany,UK,US & Switzerland etc etc.
'Their' concept of 'love' is totally different from ours as it mainly consists of money and security. The man who gives them the most of these commodities is the 'LOVE'.
If you can accept this 'game' and not get too involved Thailand is great ! If you get involved then you are on a steep learning curve of knowledge and emotional pain?
