What the f_ck has this got to do with anything. Just another 'I've been here longer than you' load of crap. Do I have to justify how long I've been here before I can say anything.
Ý I'm not proving anything by saying this, but I've only lived here for nine years and I'm quite happy to say I know f_ck all about the place.
Ý One thing I do know is , as much as I love Bangkok, the worst part about it is the people who say 'I've been here longer than you so you know f_ck all' and 'it was a lot better before you came' load of f_cking shit.
Ý Why not take it as far back as you can and say it was a lot better when we were all fish !
Ý You get this atitude everywhere but for some reason it's bad here.
Ý Talk to someone whos been here 20 or so years and every bar area, every bar every cafe, every street, everything was 'better before'
Ý It's always someones first time here, and for them this is the best time, then in 20 years they can say it was better before.
Ý I always try to avoid this atitude cause it snoddish crap.
Ý Ý Anyway I still think Therma has a better atmosphere than grace, but I've only been here 9 years so I can't really comment can I ?

I myself try to avoid doing what you speak of and though I may not always succeed I think you won't find many posts where I succumb to the temptation to play the old hand card. If I do mention how long I've been here or how thingd used to be it is almost always becasue it was relevant to what is being discussed.
So as I say, I do understand your annoyance but I think what happened here is you made a statement that is simply not true and it made you sound like you were speaking from inexperience:
"Well as far as I'm concered Thermae has always, and always will be more of an institution than bloody grace hotel. So I would say grace emulated Thermae."
When people talk about something being an institution the common definition is something that has been around for a very long time and is firmly established as what it is. To emulate means to copy or try to succeed at something that someone/something has done before.
"In the old days"  when Thermae was at its best I preferred it and in fact never liked Grace much but the simple fact is that Grace was first and has been what it is longer than Thermae.

i know I made a balls up in the way what I said came out. I just personaly think Thermae is more of an institution than Grace. I think you'll find it is more well known around the world, do you agree ?
You also made a good point in saying you not always succeed in not having this atitude, cause I know we can all be quilty of it a bit, I just try my hardest not to seem snoddish in that way.
I do also except that some things where better before, this is bound to be true in many cases, Thermae being the perfect example, but not everything!!
There is nothing worse than listerning to someone bang on about the good old days of Bangkok. I mean come on , it was good, it still is good, and I think it always will be good, and if you live here, just think yourself lucky

Yes, it is my impression that Thermae is better known -- THESE days.
However, if I may speak of days gone by  , when I first came to Asia one of the first things I heard about Bangkok was Grace.
Anyway, I hear you. I really do.

Yes, the Thermae is FAR more famous, due to its notoriety on this, and other Internet venues. ÝBy the time the Internet was available, the Grace had already faded into an Arab hunting ground, with LOTS of 'big game'.
But as Joe points out, the Grace really was famous throughout Asia as THE place to meet freelancers in Bangkok.
Sorry if this reminiscence sounds like snobbery - it's not.
It's just a genuine fondness for memories of a different time, in the distant past, BI.

I'm going to Thermae once in a while. The gilrs vary, some are extremly sexy but some are old wores. So you have a big choice and the best time to go there is around 11:00 pm. The place itself is quite dirty, dark and not very welcoming but who cares? I met there a girl and went with her twice into a ST Hotel. She always wears Nilons, thats what turns me on. She told me that she can do lesbian show with her friend who is also regularly there but that girl is realy fat, old and uggly. So I dont prefer to go with both
Anyhow, made some good experiences there. Worth to try it - prices are very low now since not many tourists around. You get a long time for 1K Baht.

Zodiac, thank you for reviving this thread. I've said often in other threads that Thermae MUST be mentioned in any top 3-5 list of haunts. I stand by my assertion. Rami, you are correct, if you want HI-SO, go to CM2, and pay top dollar. This happy poster has and will continue to prowl the Thermae until it is no longer. I admit, now I go to Grace upon closing, though prior to the curfew enforcement I'd obtain a short time room upstairs at the Raumchitt, and have delightful evenings. Sometimes girls know English, sometimes not, all know what a 1000 baht looks like though. I have regulars I see as well. One girl, I've seen over about a 7 yr. period, still looks and tastes great. You guys that want penthouse pets, stay away from my beloved Thermae, though I will say I've L.A. 8's. No shit. Drop dead gorgeous model types who stumbled in off the street, or so they said! All the same to me, like I said, I'll take the student librarian assistant type anyday, the mousier the better. The wild wild west sideline action is great for people watching too, seen some doozy catfights. Love it when the fur flys. ÝI LOVE THE THERMAE

Been there with BK a week ago and probably won't go again within few weeks. The selection was poor and several underage girls lurking around. So many ATMs walking around as well.
Certainly I keep my good memories of this place from years ago when gathering the best (in quality) of what is now seen at Beergarden or even SIAM HOTEL. Well, this is just me....
BTW SKIP went there a couple of days ago after a Q-bar experience. He picked up two TGs from outside I think. We can wait for his FR to feed this thread accordingly, je!
