I am sure many of you know that a percentage of hairdressers are ex-BG, ex-MG, ex- just about every kind of commercial sex worker. It is one of the most common next jobs so there is a BG mentality that takes hold in many of the hair salons in BKK. She doesn't have to be an ex-BG to have hung around BGs or have been influenced by them. If she was/is a hairdresser anywhere in lower Sukhumvit then she would be "under the influence" 
What she is asking is not something a normal TG would ask for. Just like going to Bahrain is not something a normal TG would do....

IMHO,
Women tend to be the same all over the planet. They meet a nice guy and they want you to make a commitment/ move in with you/them after the 3rd date.
Speaking only for myself, If the girl is working a regular day job. I would cover the household expenses but I wouldn't pay her and I would expect her to pay for some of the outside expenses within reason. If the girl still worked bar, I would expect her to pick up a much higher % of the monthly living expenses.

best bet is to budget her at 1000B per day. since you are not 100% sure about the relationship, then she is probably not the right one. at least you are not selling your house for her.

yep. non-bar tg's are more expensive. they expect you to pay for her friends too. then, you also get the mood swings - which, to me, is unbearable. i only canimagine the expression on your face when you take her and her friends out to dinner at a nice place. then she only talks to her friends like you weren't there.
can't cheat the system.

Not sure i agree about Bahrain not being a normal thing for a Thai woman to do - If you are "getting on" and worrying about how you are going to provide for yourself as you get older - then working overseas is a common solution for many asians. Just witness the number of arab states. But there are many abuses and trafficing issues re immigrant women/workers going on in those countries. So even when she says her friend is out there saying "come on in the waters warm" I worry. She talks about going out there with her best friend who is also a hairdresser ( her best friends sister is out there already ). But I cannot stop her from making choices for herself to survive. Not when I'm not giving her 100% commitment.
I'm pretty sure she's not an ex BG - she's never appeared circumspect or hidden anything from me- in all nothing about her has ever "whiffed" of some of the stuff I read here regarding BG antics, such as in Steve Leather's book.

I'd say she's probably looking at 5000 a month or something on top of her wages to feel more like a secure couple.

most of the girls can live on B5K per month if they don't have to pay rent ..
I would tend not to pay at all, but if I did, then I would not do it monthly as they always run out of money a few days later.. better to give her B1,500 a week or so .. just for taxis, lunch, etc ..
I still think that giving her an allowance is getting off on the wrong foot. I would not do it and I have had five regular Thai g/fs over the last 15 years and never did give them anything that resembled an allowance.
If you are going to hire a girl, then get a bargirl..
I would tell her that you could not respect a girl that expected to get paid for being in a relationship.. then now and then buy her some nice things.. they really like gold and a nice chain/bracelet can be had for about B6-7K .. do that now and then and she probably will be happy..
It is not that I mind spending money on the girl, it is just the idea of giving cash monthly .. doesn't sit well with me at all ..

Nonchai - Boy! ÝHave you said enough or what!?!?!? ÝWay more honesty and openness than I was expecting but about all any of us can do is give you our best advice based on our own experiences and wish you two the best of luck.
There are so many things I wish to ask and also to say but I don't feel appropriate on an open forum such as this. ÝFor what it's worth, from what you have posted just recently, I have more confidence in things having a chance for the two of you but at the same time, there are so many variables.
Bahrain, it could be worse. ÝI have friends from the Philippines that are scattered all over the middle east as well as a good part of Asia and Bahrain is one of the better locations.
I am happy to hear that she is 40 years old as she is probably much more mature which suggests that the two of you should be able to work things out on a more adult level. ÝAlso, you say that you are not giving her 100% commitment, regardless of what I may have intimated before, you seem to have given her more of a commitment than many others have given their respective loves, Thai and Farang alike.
I guess the only thing I can add that I haven't said before is that your girlfriend is considering going to Bahrain to try to ensure her later years and the most important thing for my girlfriend and I was exactly that, if something happens to us or happens to me, what happens to her. Ý
As an aside, our son has already been accepted into University in the US although he won't graduate high school until next year but once he has his PHD he should be able to support us both! Ý;)
I think if you can solve the question of her future, as your's seems pretty much ensured, even if it means her going to Bahrain for a contract or two and then coming back to you, then you will have many problems solved. Ý
If it means anything, my girlfriend and I have been "together" for three years even though we live in different countries and can only see each other 2 or 3 months out of the year. That will not stay that way always but for the time being, we each do what we have to do for our future together. ÝLong distance realtionships may not be that common in the West but they are more common in the East.
In closing, again, I wish the two of you the best of luck and happiness together, even if that means you are apart for a period of time. ÝI may be out of line saying this but it sounds like you have a keeper that has a good enough mind to consider her future when too many women don't have a clue about next week let alone 5 or 10 years from now.

Yup...agree with Oaktoad...nothing as a direct payment is better...see my earlier posts about housekeeping etc......but certainly 1000B a day is a silly amount

Yurune - I poorly judged the situation described initially and didn't know whether it was only a longer term Rent-a-wife situation or a desire for a real long term life together with a commitment to each other.
My suggesting the 1k a day was with the thought of it possibly being a "rental" situation which I humbly appologize for considering.
