h-s, don't bother we will soon tire of this asshole. Again another case where we start giving the benefit of the doubt, but the guy shows his true colors fast.
From what I am seeing, he seems to go to different forums and pick and choose what he likes and then goes and uses that topic in the other forum. Maybe that is the way he gets himself sounding smart and generates some attention: using what has been posted by others elsewhere.
What I found interesting is that he spent more time criticizing your first post than actually addressing the core of what you said. It is funny that while he criticizes your post, he quotes you. BTW, this guy really has an ego thing. Notice in many posts the abundant use of "I" and "ME" when he goes start talking about what he think, what he does, what he is, etc.
On topic, .... well, we have discussed this before, and I will wait until I read a new angle on the issue. It ain't fun typing the same thoughts again. But lets just say that sometimes people DO NOT want to be corrected from their mistakes. What we think is wrong, they think is right and often our attempts at showing them otherwise meet resistance. And how do we know that we are absolutely right and they are not?

I think what that guy says is just plain wrong - ie, erroneous - as well as sinister.
I flatly dispute that BGs, treated with respect, will respond with contempt. In my experience, it is quite the reverse. When making a sincere thank-you or apology to a BG, I give her the full 'khun' and 'khrap' treatment, and nearly always find that this goes down a treat. Several times, this has turned round situations which were on that downward spiral most of us know well.
I wouldn't tolerate for a second a BG rubbing me on the head in public. This is an appalling insult for a Thai to give another adult. The most blatant case I've ever seen was at Bottoms Up at NEP, when a drunk jerk was feeling up one of the nude girls on the runway. She reached down and started stroking the top of his bald pate, apparently affectionately, and he never twigged. Of course, 80% of the other people in that bar, farangs as well as Thais, knew exactly what she was doing - practically pissing on him. Had HE been treating her with respect to earn such a display of public disdain?
Sure, BGs from Isaan are at the bottom of the Thai social heap, and Thais treat them accordingly. They have cultural excuses for this attitude, it is unreasonable to blame them as individuals for it, and it is not the business of farangs or other foreigners to interfere.
That doesn't mean we have to find it attractive, nor that we should try to filch Thai values which have nothing to do with our own enculturation and flatly contradict our own values. No doubt the same HiSo Thai who tells you it's OK to treat an Isaan BG like a dog (do they ever go quite that far?) will recommend you to lick the arse of some fat, corrupt - posssibly murderous - sleazeball who happens to be a high-born general.
Well, my response is stuff it. I am not Thai, I do not pretend to be Thai, and while I have huge admiration for many Thai beliefs and attitudes, I think some of their values are grossly inferior to Western ones. If they want to treat Isaan BGs like dogs they can. That's their loss - and I'm damned if I'm going to admire them for it, let alone try to emulate them.
Why, in fact, would any Westerner with any claim to human decency want to do this? Well, we know the answer, don't we? Because any old excuse to regard prostitutes as sub-human and treat them accordingly will do. Some guys don't need an excuse to behave abusively. Others - possibly the more intelligent ones - need just this kind of cover story to hide from themselves what they're doing and what they are. Ý Ý

I agree 100% with what you , X and others have said - viz. regardless of the so called level of society that BGs are placed in it is how we behave that is important - and incidentally this could make all the difference .
Let me give one or two real life examples :-
- Those who have read "Song's" story ( please see the thread Bar Girl Stories under the topic Misc.-Girls ) will readily agree that with her background she would be classified as the lowliest of the low in this "social ladder". However 6&1/2 years later and she is now on the School Committee & the District Committee in her hometown up in the North . She has also been rated as a model mother by the local District .
- Those who attended the June RT would have seen the girl I was with . The way she carried herself and behaved had many members thinking that she was not a BG - in fact some thought that she was my wife !! But she was a BG .
The point I am making is that BGs may be considered low down in Thai society but that is not their fault - that is an accident of birth . BUT treated properly and given half the chance they can turn out to be better than many of the so called Hi-Sos .
