Oneeye, sorry to hear about your breakup, your post has a lot of good points, the bros should read it and maybe not complain about the situtation that they are in.
I could not agree with you more on Item #1. I am pretty adventurous when it comes to food, but Thai's cannot stray away from their food too long. On who made the move - I didn't break up with her, she broke up with me, actually. ÝJust got fed up with my being in China. ÝI cannot blame her. What I think this thread demonstrates is that anyone who thinks that his problems will go away by switching from BGs to 'good' girls is dreaming. All he is doing is buying into a different minefield.

Not necessarily true unless you, she or both want it that way, and this is certainly NOT a given. A relationship with a BG will present you with a different set of problems, that's all. Certainly, it is no more plain-sailing than a relationship with any other type of woman. One look at Western divorce rates should suggest that it can't be that much harder, however, unless you have a tin ear for x-cultural differences and/or hang-ups about prostitution.

During my 1week stay in BKK recently i went to Hualampong Railway Station to ask some questions at the Tourist Information counter.At that time(3am,after my drinking marathon in Patpong1)..there was 2gals(university student) and a guy working there.

you did a very good post which has made me decide to post my little story
met a woman when in udorn thani in 1990 who was a teacher went out with her for months then decided she was the one
she was fun had a great attitude well educated from a civil servant family all worked as teachers polieman customs men and in the military
she could not live with me in europe and i could not live in thailand
so we came to a compromise she came to europe for six months of the year and i went to thailand 2/3 times a year
as i said before she was smart and developed a lot of small bussiness intrests when in europe she was always looking out for ways to make money fiercly independant paid her own way
as a relationship it was a good balence and to be honest i dont think we could have stayed together 24/7 i would probably self destruct
it was working well then it happened
in april 2001 she did not feel well went to a hospital and was diagnosed with cancer she died in june 2001 and i fell apart
4) points
1) on the eve of our wedding she pulled me aside and said to me "you can go with other woman but i must never find out" this has happened to other people i know who have married thai girls and seems to be a cultural norm for woman of middle class/blue collar status
2) i have now started to get letters from the family after what appears to be in there minds a decent time basically wanting money up until now money was never asked for in any shape or form
of course small presents were brought from europe but nothing of any great value
one sister contacted me 3 months ago wanting me to sponsor her to holland met her breifly once approx 5 minutes was polite to her and that was that
and this week i have recieved a letter from another sister who and i will quote you exactly from the letter

the rest of the letter is basically i am in the shit you was my brother in law give me money now !!!!!!!!
needles to say i have drafted an apropriate responce which a good thai friend is at this moment drafting into thai so there is no question on how i feel about the situation
3) on reflection my late wife was the ATM for the family always helping out giving money and things without thinking she even set up a nephew who was a drug addict by buying him a small eucalyptus plantation outsisde kanachaburi and getting him back on his feet
and so its by association i am now looked at as the new prospective family ATM
4) so if you do find that woman who doesnt want your money the odds are there is someone in the immediate family does want your money or sees you as easy mark

I don't think I was viewed as an ATM. Older sister is an eye surgeon at the top hospital in BKK (no, it isn't Bumrungrad, its Thonburi Hospital - this is Thailand's leading private hospital, forget what you hear about Bumrungrad, which is really just a hotel with med services). Younger sister is getting her MBA in the states. Dad is a bank executive. If anything, at one point it was suggested they become my ATM, but I have too much pride for that.
That said, there have been destitute cousins, and cousins who died of AIDS due to IV drug use, but I never met them.

Very sorry to hear about your story, but be thankful for the good times. Many never have that. There seems always be someone that thinks you are the ATM.
My Gf refused to take my money after second night. I am not stupid and knew something was amiss, but she (Nok) turned out to be quite sincere and all went well. I knew that somehow someone was going to pop up wanting her as the farang-ATM proxy. I already made it clear to her that if we get married, her family will get a dowry and as new family members, WE, as a couple, will help if we can.
All women are whores and all men are dogs. The nice thing about current and ex-bgs is that there is no BS about this. I have been very firm with Nok about this and so far so good. I am happy to give some support if WE (not I) can, but not as a sugadaddy boyfriend.
Nok has caught some heat from family for not coming up with a ton of farang money, but she is being firm with them.
We will see how this plays out, but as I mentioned many times, I have been at this game for seven years with 80-100 BGs and Nok is on the level just like that perfect styrofoam container of Som Tam.
