I have been all over Asia and have lived in Asia for over 18 years. Only in Thailand are my arms readily recognized by the bar girls. I am 50 now but when I was 20 I had several episodes of cutting my arms while on an alcohlic blackout. Most of this stemmed from an experience I had in Korea. This scars were self-inflicted. They are ugly and run up and own boh arms. AM I mentally unstable? Perhaps a littke but a lot when I was 20. The fact that the Thais recognize it is interesting. I have not found so many with these scars as I have here in Thailand. I also find it interesting that before my tour in Korea I was stationed in Thailand. Most of the scars I have seen here are quite minor. In this heat and humidity a scratch may become a nasty scar.

Thanks for that, Durianlover. Yes, people sometimes have very traumatic episodes in their lives but then get over them and should certainly not be regarded as 'unstable' for ever after. I suppose a BG's lot often sets her up for trauma. A very naive young girl, fresh off the farm, is suddenly pitched into a lifestyle she doesn't begin to understand in Bangkok or Pattaya and gets badly hurt. She does something stupid. Then she pulls herself together and begins to learn the ropes - with or without permanent damage. C'est la vie. If I like a BG, I'm certainly not going to hold her wrist scars against her.
