I've read the book and found the main character to be a self-righteous conniving little prick. The phrase "LET IT GO DUDE" kept flashing in front of me. Man, if some people take the book (which is no doubt a fun quick read) to be a guide book, then good for them.
There is no expedient to which a man will not resort to avoid the real labor of thinking.
But, hey, what do I know?

Stephen is a good guy - spends alot of time in LOS, and the book is LOOSELY based on an experience he had ... also it is a NOVEL ... - Dean Barretts book Skytrain to murder just out also not a bad light read - those familiar with soi washington area especially will recognize alot -

I have a pretty unique situation regarding BG's , parents etc.
I married my BG about 7 years ago, we have 2 lovely kids, the only money she sends home is from her own salary, Ýocassionaly I will add a few baht to it( what a hero!)
Even when there was a Ýgenuine crisis back home ( Mother Ill ) she sent the hospital fees over. Now this in itself is not unique.
About 3 years back my wifes non-BG sister , who had a decent job , Uni education etc, displayed an interest in coming to Europe ( UK). A long standing friend of mine had been travelling to Thailand for tourism , occasionally p4p, had been pondering the idea of looking for a long term partner also. We helped them to meet up, they got on well, married etc.
Now his life is hell , she takes a lot of his money, or did, sees other guys, basically has turned into the bitch from hell. Back in Thailand she seemed fine, but in the 4 years since my wife hadn't lived with her, something strange must have happened.
Or maybe my wife Ýdidn't like my friend and knew this would happen....j/k
They are now divorcing etc , but still no money is being sent back home , secretly I think the parents are glad to be shot of thier non- Bg daughter.
I feel bad for him , but maybe he was an easy touch for this "Educated" Thai girl ?

An ever-useful reminder that 'bitches from hell' don't need to be prostitutes. Of course, some working girls ARE bitches from hell, but then many others aren't - at least not in LOS (I can't really speak for anywhere else). Assuming they've had any other experience of women at all, it beats me how guys can participate in P4P here and still maintain the idiotic dichotomy of working girl = bad & non-working girl = good. Ý

Yeah, read purely as the novel it is, I have no objection to 'Private Dancer' or Stephen Leather at all. It's not his fault it gets treated as a definitive statement of the Thai P4P scene. I still don't think PD's anywhere near as good as Reynolds' 'A Woman of Bangkok', though, and that can't ever have been a definitive statement either. (Thank God - if there were too many of the magnificent Villai around, we'd all be sunk).
Don't know of any book by a BG - however "Hello, My Big Honey" has a lot of stuff straight from the horse's mouth (interviews, letters, etc) & is worth reading. Reynolds' book above probably has the best description of the inner workings of a BG bonce - at least, the most believable by far that I've ever read (without being a BG, how can you be sure?) Really quite an astonishing tour de force for a farang author, I think. Ý

Ya, well I consider most avarage people including Americans to be idiots (ya, ya, I have dillusions of grandeur )
I am anti-stupid people and believe me, most people in Canada are just that.
I used to love hockey as a kid, but I hate being "coached" by angry jumpy middle aged fat men who didn't make it in there lives and get there kicks out of pushing(coaching) kids. ÝAnd also, I can't stand being part of a 'team'. Now I vent my anger and frustation using TKD. ÝI've even won a few province level tourneys (I kid you not.) ÝOfcourse, this is the Olympic style TKD and not the other dogmatic style, so no "the master is all powerful crap." ÝThe coaching is more like in Tennis, you don't have to bow to the damn coach and other shit that goes on in regular martial arts schools.
Also, when I wrote, "the phrase LET IT GO DUDE", I meant about the character in the book, not the author.

The thing about Canada is that it just is normal. No edge. No danger. No challange. And they think so damn hard about things before they do it.
Cool on the TKD! Right about the hockey scene. Never mind the molestation of kids that stinks up the junior levels of the game. Talk to ya later!
Mr. Arcadius..........I don't know of any BG originated expose' either. No matter how sensitive the author is, ie. 'Hello My Big Honey'/'A woman of Bangkok' the words on the paper are still filtered thru A. a man
B. western culture
C. language barriers
To be realistic it will take an 'after life' BG to write about the whole scene, in her own blood, before we really can feel we know the sense of the game.
Unfortunately education levels of BG's being what they are, for a woman of the bed to turn to being a woman of the pen will require being gifted at the start.
In my opinion, a world wide bestseller if she writes it.
