Thai Roman Catholics are a tiny but wealthy and influential group, mostly Tae Jiew (Chinese from a group of villages near Swatow).
And the ones I know cling to obsolete observances such as no-meat-on-Fridays which is something that went away in USA a long time ago. I'm not sure how lax they are.

Well, I have to admit that I base my conclusion on Thai Catholics on a few historical anecdotes and only 2 people I know (and some historical anecdotes), both of whom (not related) are not as strict as the Catholics I've known in US (much of my extended family). Of course my conclusions are no doubt influenced by my views on religion in general. Suffice it to say that I think that there's lot's of emphasis on ritual, but little else. I dare not say more!
