Well within reach to shut down Mandarin for a month and have the "social order" yabooes crawl all over the rest of Nana, wouldn't that make all the other owners feel good toward Mandarin's owners/managers and policymakers?
This is high tourist season and we ought to be grateful for every tourist we get given the world situation and the media campaigns against LOS. Instead, we get nast little c***s like this trying to get 2000 baht at knifepoint.
Michaelb, you are not doing yourself or anyone else a favor by letting this go.

I'm also surprised at the tolerance people have for this kind of behavior by bargirls. As outsiders we often don't want to get involved any more than is absolutely necessary, but we should try to keep the girls and bars as accountable as we can without endangering ourselves too much (each person has their own tolerances).
This is bad for the bar, bad for NEP and bad for the entire industry. Everyone involved needs to do whatever they can to prevent this kind of behavior.

Just a question on this topic.. If this sort of thing does happen... is it best to pay the girl what she demands and then go back to her place of work after she leaves the room and complain to the management/mamasan right away and retrieve your money? This would prevent violence and threats and hopefully teach the girl a lesson..... or is it that once you pay there is no refund?

IMHO, I would just pay the 2000 baht, then go back to the bar and complain to the manager later. Afterall, it's not worth getting stabbed or having to watch over your shoulder all the time because of 2000 baht.

^ Bring the tourist police with you. They deal with this type of stuff all the time. Make sure it's the tourist police... because the real police are less effective in these matters (as far as I've heard through vicarious experience).

Definitely agree it all should have been brought into the open, the girl reprimanded, and Michaelb compensated, at least his BF back.
