I know that the underage/child prostitution thing has become much more of a topic over the last ten years. Particularly with the busts of foreign pederasts, (please dont call them pedophiles when they were with sexually mature kids, look up the definitions, pedophiles would be disgusted by sexually mature teens) and with the higher profile it has got with the western media. however, considering that european and US kids are having babies at 12/13/14 years old now, is it just societies morals that are at work. Consider that 5-700 years ago kings and queens were married at 9-10 and expected to produce heirs by 12-14??
Modern society has said that a person is underage at (pick your country) say 16. However as we all know girls mature and reach pubescense earlier than guys. While man has put age limits on intimate relations, surely there is a higher arbiter of this, namely, if a girl has started menstruating then nature is saying, go forth and multiply, if a boy of 13/14 can produce sperm then nature is also telling him the same thing. So we have two standards, one is kept by the moralists/religious/older generations who set the laws, and one is set by nature, ie I've got boobs and my period, give it to me big boy. So does not society say under age actually means too young to be personally responsible not too young to do the dirty.
I find it particularly irrational that a US male can fight and die for his country but cannot get a beer!!.

Yep, physical capabilities come up like You said but how about mentally ?
Children are not capable to fully understand the reponsibilites brought by possible parenthood ( in case that they do the deed and girl gets pregnant ) or are not physically strong enough to do all the things that are needed. Latter was especially true in older days.
The laws are not made just out of the fun of making them.

Actually most laws are instigated and brought about by socio-economic conditions and prevailing religious and scientific beliefs of the time, with a huge emphasis on Religion. The generally have little to do with the welfare of anyone, although they are generally disguised as such.
Just check through the ages on what we now consider stupid laws, ie on Masturbation, anal sex, oral sex, and you will see that they had nothing really to do with physical or mental welfare but were very much disguised as such. It is still possible to be jailed in the U.S. for oral sex !!.
Considering the rates of maturity both physical and mental of teens several hundred years ago, then there would have been (at the time) no abiding argument for restrictions on physically capable (by that I mean having passed puberty) teens indulging in sex.
Again I am not advocating child sex or prostitution, simply stating that the proliferation throughout the world of Victorian morals, as passed around by the British Empire, has to a great extent decided the course of current legislation in many countries. The truth is that they had a very poor understanding of psychology, anatomy, physiology and human nature.
Finally in answer to your basic argument, I disagree, a teen is capable of understanding what is tought to him and demonstrated to him. Society today has decided that most teens cannot think for themselves and thus are above the law when it comes to murder etc. They would rather place the blame on computer games and television, wheras the whole blame should be directed at the parents. I have been playing violent and sexually mature computer games since 1986, and have still to go out and rape/murder anyone.

I agree that some teens have a better understanding, indeed.
I also agree that the criminal legislation is damn loose when those "U can't touch me" - attituded kids are doing crimes just because they can.
That shows that they understand they are doing a crime.
BUT it is still a crime to have sex with person who is under the age mentioned of the law of ( name of the country here). There is no "gray areas" in that.
As You mentioned above, the kings & queens were supposed to marry and have kids when practically children themselves.
The law allowing that exists no more.
Was a wise law destroyed or a stupid law installed, depends a point of wiew.
And before anybody is dragged to court, DA checks IF there is a case and how it is handled in the court of law.

Why irrational completely normal in a collective dictatorship / sorry freedom, the freedom to die for someone elses mistakes and the freedom to not do what you want and be treated like a child people voted for it. democracy 's a bummer when your in the minority - yep tell me about it.

The legal age to work in an p4p establishment is 18 years.
According to section 50 of the Labor Act 2541:
- It is forbidden to employ children under the age of 18 in the following places:
- places which serve liquor or other drinks, with girls of pleasure servicing customers or providing massage services.
Another place is slaughterhouses.
Quite funny how we always describe 'prostitution' as illegal but that 'girls of pleasure' are described in a law.

Did anyone notice this in the TAT news? Is this a misprint?
PROCURERS 1-10 years jail if prostitutes are over 18 years old
5-15 years jail if prostitutes are between 15 and 18 years old
10-20 years jail if prostitutes are under 15 years old
I refer specifically to the line "if prostitutes are over 18"... I have heard that prostitution is technically illegal... but this line doesn't seem to jive with the other stuff where it seems acceptable. Am I reading wrong?
Anyway, I don't mean to muddy the waters, just thought it was a bit wierd. But so many things are.
However, just so everything doesn't have to get repeated. Thais get their "but prachatchon" id card at 15 so that's when they're legal --- with Thais. Pretty common upcountry from what I've seen. The girl gets knocked up, her teenage Romeo splits, she goes to work in a "restaurant", and sometimes later to Bkk. We've all met them and they are wonderful people. However it's 18 limit for prostitutes (read, with foreigners, since I have yet to hear of a foreigner falling in love and marrying a 15 yr old here, but maybe it will happen someday, though I wouldn't encourage trying------ though I am also not completely convinced that an 18 or even a 28 yr old Thai woman is more mentally mature than a 15 yr old in Bkk!). And yes the signs say you can't go into those pubs etc if you're under 20 or 21 someplaces. I have a girlfriend 20 and I had to pay the doorman an extra 200b at EXCITE because she silly left her id at home.
