I guess there are as many different scenarios out there as there are fish in the sea, my missus seems to be the opposite to what you say above. She was scared initially to go overseas, she did and she loves it, she lived there for 4 and a half years, she also missed back here, but now we are here, she would happily live back in Oz or here in Los. She is also the kind of person that will do anything for me still, it probably has changed a little since 6 years ago, but generally she will do anything and being a lazy sod myself, I had to take pity on her and hire 2 nannies and maids, lol. But I wonder if that piece of paper actually makes the difference, we are not married, I dont think it would in this case, but we will never find out if I continue to have my way.

Well, if things are good as they are and she hasn't quite succeded in nailing you to floor yet, why tempt fate?
I think in any relationship or marriage (with a TG or otherwise), you have to take pot luck to a large extent. There are things you can do to improve the chances of things working out. Other than that... well its a bit like a battle plan. It may be perfect on paper, but the enemy has an annoying habit of interfering. So then it's up to you to adapt... if you can.
All the stress on farang/Thai relationships which don't work out. One look at the farang/farang divorce rates should suggest that the perils go a bit wider. Plenty of divorced Thais around too.

So I guess the real question might be why marry them? The problem seems to be that when you marry them (TG or WesternGirl), they stop being a GF and start being a wife. Is it possible that in most cases, marrying a TG and bring her to the west will eventually produce a copy of the nagging, badgering, self-serving wife that you dumped for the BG, only this one doesn't speak English quite as well, has limited education and doesn't understand how you think?

Not stirring the pot here, as I am genuinely curious if you would value this kind of initiative, or if you would draw the line there? Aside from that, what price for English lessons?
I do agree with your post in concept, as improved language skills will certainly help improve the relationship.

- if you can do the secret marriage
alimony, my ass. if you are going to have children, you have to support them, and the caring mother, too. that goes without saying.
in case some of you might ask. secret marriage is (as far as I heard). you go see the parents, you bring a gift (gold) and maybe a dowry is required. you go to the temple at her village/city and throw a party for friends and relatives. done.

Wow, this certainly seems a lot mre reasonable and inexpensive than the 'planning-for-five-years-and-spending-300%-of-GNP' marriage arrangements and plannings that farang girls seem to think is the 'perfect' wedding...
