Is it possible that in most cases, marrying a TG and bring her to the west will eventually produce a copy of the nagging, badgering, self-serving wife that you dumped for the BG...
I don't know about most cases - but yeah, I'd say it's entirely possible that this is what you end up with. Imo it's essential to get beyond the GFE before even considering marriage, or else you're buying a pig in a poke. Essentially, you'll be in the same boat as a guy who marries a new farang GF just because he's infatuated with her.
Wives and GFs are different breeds, that's for sure. OK, there are GFs and GFs. But in most cases we're not talking about the comfy-old-sweater, lived-with-for-5-years, know-all-her-annoying-habits style of GF, are we? The magnificence of the Thai GFE is that you get to play out an adolescent-fantasy type of romance - with you cast as the chivalrous knight; she as the beautiful and adoring damsel in (supposed) distress who worships the ground you tread on. All hugely enjoyable, but a lousy basis for marriage.
But why get married at all if you're only going to lose a GF? It's the age-old question. I suppose there just comes a point when you want to have kids and a family life, and start building something with a long-time companion that isn't solely about you. This is usually called 'settling down' - but the problem is that many guys don't want to settle down either. What we really want is to have our cake and eat it.
Thai wives can be a way of squaring the circle. Their main advantages are 1) cuter buns, as Oz rightly notes, and 2) quite a lot of freedom to play around and keep enjoying the GFE-type of relationships that marriage tends to kill. To my mind, the second is crucial - in fact, I just don't think I could hack marriage (to anyone) without it. But you lose it if you take a TG back home. If this is what you want, it is far better to settle in LOS - if you set your mind to it, there is always a way, and it can't be much more difficult than successfully bedding down a TG abroad. Either way, you're in for a big change of lifestyle.

Bummer. Not only that! You also seem to stop being a BF and start becoming a husband. Actually, the transition is quite fast. Almost instanteanous.
I think nobody has yet figured how to get married and not become husband and wife. You can later undo it, and loose your husband/wife status, but then you are unmarried again.
