Need a bit of advice, Just had a beautifull baby boy in issan need to know my friends tell me that I need to register the birth with the uk embassy could anyone let me know what are the ups and downs of this if needed to be done from what I gather if don't can lose all rights to kid

You can register your child at anytime with the British embassy in Bangkok, if you are legally married it helps a lot and is rather painless.
You can still do it if you are not married but it takes considerably longer and it is looked upon case by case because and I quote...
" A British father cannot transmit their nationality to illegitimate children automatically" unquote.
There is not to much paperwork but a lot of it has to be translated from Thai to English and vice versa, so a bit of running around for a registered translation service - govt approved.
The form that you will need is a C2 form - Application for UK passport for applicants under sixteen, attached to this is a two page document entitled 'consular birth registration', which outlines everything you will need.
Cost wise you are looking at around 10,000 Baht.

IK.. Congratulations.... I can't see any downs in giving your son the option of dual nationality even if it has to be Brit. I assume your name is proudly displayed as father on the birth certificate.

The upside your son gets a UK passport and has all the rights of a UK citizen.
Fifteen years ago American man had a son with a Thai women. He registered his son with the US Embassy and the boy got a passport. Fast forward 15 years they got divorced and the husband died in the US. I was able to help the mom get monthly social security benfits for the son. He gets almost $600USD per month till he 22. Money is being used to pay for his education at a private school in BKK.

BTW - have you not noticed that we have recently asserted ourselves once more at the top of the cricketing tree with our demolition of the mighty WIndies..well.. out of acorns etc.
