Respect to you for taking the similar view that I hold, that the last thing I wish to see if I travel to some far off corner of the World is a load of Western junk food chain restaurants. 
I accept that in the tourist resorts, the local entrepreneurs are trying to cash in on the expats' desires to eat their own type of food, but all they do is ruin the character of the resort by trying to turn it into some little outpost of America, England, Italy, Germany, or wherever the greatest number of tourists hail from.
As far as I'm concerned, most of those tourists who go to these places and expect to eat the food of their own countries are Plebs and Phillistines.
I suppose it is inevitable to have this scenario in a major World city like Bangkok, but I think that it's a crying shame to spoil the likes of Phuket and Samui with modern shopping malls, and all the trashiest detritus of the Western World.
My problem is that these resorts are the places to find the available P4P scenes that are my reason for visiting them. If it wasn't for that, I would never want to go to a place which has been so brutalised by the worst examples of Western culinary lack of prowess.
Discussions on this forum as to where one can find the best burgher, bratwurst, pizza etc are largely spurious and bemuse me greatly. If eating is to be discussed at all, I always prefer to read about Dining at the Y, whether Oriental pussies taste better than Farang ones, discussions on expertise of BGs in telling what you have eaten by the taste of your semen, the merits of flavoured condoms, etc.

Thet don't really want to go to another country/culture, they want a theme park.

On the other hand, a lot of Thais wanted all these western (=hip) joints in their cities, too. To them, they get a piece of " Americana" in their Big Mac and Coke or KFC while listening to western music in air-conditioned building. It's not unlike major US cities also have Thai restaurants ( probably considered "junk food" standard by true Thais) and " Italian" restaurants that sell nothing but "American Italian food". I consider 75% of Asian restaurants in SF as " junk food". No different than farangs consider McDonald or BK in BKK as " junk food" and be ashamed of it.

Well, I have yet to set foot in a McDonald's in Thailand, and I'm an American. Perhaps it's the demonic look of the 7 foot tall wai'ing Ronald outside, lol?
Nonetheless, my TGF is a great fan of KFC. It's the extra spicy BBQ chicken that attracts her like a moth to the flame. But when you think about it, not so much different than the normal fare she might pick up at a BBQ food cart. She's been to McDonald's once or twice, but dislikes the food. So perhaps it's a question of KFC emulating her normal diet. As a rule, she doesn't like farang food at all, and whenever she has a choice, will always order Thai food. Frankly, I eschew fast food, but that's a personal choice for health reasons.
More importantly, most people don't realize that American fast food is actually a covert ops industry supported by the American government at the highest level. The idea is, bring in Coca Cola and McDonald's, and we'll have the locals screaming for more. The domino theory to democracy. That's why I never understood our embargo on Cuba -- figure, airlift in a couple million Big Macs and it's all over for Fidel and company.

For the rest of the population in here, the ones with the enquiring minds, instead of the ‘know it all already’ mind like the goose. She was actually a rather lovely girl, she had several qualities that the normal thai girl does not possess.
She could take a condom off with her fanny, she even brushed my teeth with my toothbrush stuck in her fanny. The hotel was short a bottle opener for the Heinekens when we checked in, so she promptly used her fanny for that also.
One time playing golf with her, she acted as my caddy, she placed the balls on the tee’s in a very special way that got all my fellow golfers asking their caddies to do the same thing and some of them were male !

By the way, what do you mean by "all knowing opinion"? I think you are mixing both concepts: knowledge and opinion. Aren't they two different things? Some have knowledge, some have opinions, a few have both and most have neither.

Hugh,
I have an English friend in Hong Kong who has never been to the US. He asked me if Budweiser was an upscale American beer. I said, no, it is a working mans beer. He then told me that Budweiser (aka Bud) was being marketed in the UK as an upscale American beer (a few years ago). How sad.

When I went to HK back in my Navy days, McDonalds handed out maps with all the McDees in HK on it. Useful to have but I did not use it to find McDees. Had a shipmate that would only eat fast food because he was afraid of local food. Funny, the only time I got food poisioning was from my ships food, NEVER local food.

It's okay, consider 'Jägermeister' is being marketed to Americans as a 'drink', i.e. booze to consume as an alcoholic beverage -- in Europe it's known as a digestive aid. I'm sure you can guess who's having the last laugh on that one...
