Yes, that's right. That's why they're doing it--for the money.
I mean, actually, I can't see much basic difference psychically between women in SE Asia and women in more industrialized countries... though things certainly have the appearance of pretty or spoiled behavior that wealth permits... It's not like they're not human: woman is woman... It's just that in richer countries women have more social and economic choices. In fact at this time women in the West are even beginning to compete with men for the same positions and traditionally male roles in society. I believe that creates a lot of frustration there right now between gender relations (coupled with the anti-sexual morality of the predominant ethos, it's excrutiating). Both genders are suffering an identity crises over there. It may take another 50 to 100 years to work out better somehow than it is now. I hope it does. Who knows the future?
I've never in my lifetime seen women anywhere that didn't appreciate expensive gifts or a nice income being part of the man they choose. They look for a strong provider for future offspring. As I said spending a little bread on a woman is usually part of the courting ritual. Unless you're both like what bohemians...? The courting ritual, to be more explicit, involves a male trying to entice a female into sex. Pretty universal.
We are somewhat of a higher primate with a complex society, and again in expressing our sexuality must abide by our own certain socially acceptable rules that the bonobo (the notoriously sexually active orgy-loving pygmy chimapanzees who give bjs for a banana branch in thnx) or the orangutan (basically a rapist) do not. Those apes have their own. Just as a young gorilla doesn't go trying to screw one of the alpha male's harem unless he's looking for a big fight, we too must fit ourselves into the situation and realize realistically and socially what are our chances, what are the expenses, and what are the consequences.
There are very few consequences if one sticks to only established touristy p4p (and protects oneself) for all of one's sexuality. As one ventures out from that, it certainly becomes more complex, and for some more interesting, and for still others more dangerous.
But it does not hurt to repeat that an adventurer should be able to speak the lingo well and have a healthy understanding and respect for the culture he is about to try to be a playboy in. After all, it's not a bad idea for any one of us to project a polite image for all of us.
Back to the original question: More women in p4p... Well, new meat, hmmm. But now, as it is not merely a case of the wealthy hi class of this country who say they want to improve the country's image but they're not willing to raise a finger in real contribution toward the education of the poor here to give them more choices... No, I think it's bigger than that already. It's a facet of the culture that doesn't include a strong ingenious work ethic. Until that develops (if it does, or if it should), many people will always be willing to take the easiest route of having someone else pay your way and support you if possible for an hour of sex. Laying on the back for an hour is easier than breaking one's back all day everyday apparently. The education system and child-rearing methods here would have to change drastically for p4p not to increase, probably even if the economy improved. For example, everyone gets credit so easily now... and p4p is still strong--people can't look ahead to pay the bills.

Johnny here does make a good point but very long winded.
Basically to summarise:
3rd world country (not Muslim) always has a P4P scene
No work ethic and no forward planning.
