In the UK Wednesday afternoons are traditionally kept free for students osensibly to use for sports/club activities. Is there a similar system in BKK/LOS? If so, then that would be the time to hand around Siam Sqaure etc.... Not that I would, of course...

2 million Thai graduates facing grim future : As many as two million graduates could be out of work in the next five years.

About 15 per cent of the 2.3 million students graduating with high-school and university qualifications will be unable to secure employment over the next five years, according to an adviser to the National Economic and Social Development Board.
This is because schools and places of higher education are churning out people qualified in areas where there were few jobs.
But, there are too few qualified people in fields desperate for personnel, Panitharn Yarmwinij told an Education Council seminar at Nakhon Pathom yesterday.
Just 300,000 graduates will get to work in their chosen fields, 85,000 of those in top scientific and technological positions.
Panitharn said about two million students faced unemployment or working in lower-paying positions for which they were overqualified.
Yet, there would be as many as one million vacancies in fields such as textiles, rubber, tourism and production-based industries.
To end oversupply Panitharn said schools and universities should turn out more graduates with science- and mathematics-based degrees.
He suggested 65 per cent of graduates over the next three years should have that type of qualification. Currently, just 55 per cent of graduates had science- or mathematics-based qualifications.
These graduates could go on to work in biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, rubber processing, electronics and fashion.
The development board's 10th National Development Plan emphasised the King's sufficiency economic theory.
Panitharn said training students in fields vital to Thailand's prosperity was critical.
The economy was now resource-based - or one that produced low-value products that were resource intensive.
"The right economic system should be knowledge based, or one which produces quality products requiring low resource exploitation," Panitharn said.
Thailand was a resource-based economy because its workforce was less skilled than those in developed countries.
"Seventy per cent of the entire work force of 34 million possess lower than a grade-12 education.
"To switch the economy to a knowledge-based one, a lot of investment in human-resource development is needed," he said.
Students must improve their analytical thinking, creativity and improvisational skills, as well as their English and computer literacy, Panitharn said.
My Comments : With so many University graduates out of job, I suppose a number of them (the girls) will become free-lancers to earn their keep

It's really the only bit of advice worth giving any Thai with ambition - get your ass to the US, if you want to be successful at what you do, do not expect success at home. (incidentally, applies to many countries).
This article just confirms it, though the US has the same problem with regularly churning out highly qualified graduates that end up working at McDonalds.

As to hoe easily a real genuine student is to pick up - I know of a 30 odd, good looking farang tutor, who works at Rhamkamheng Uni, 6000 odd students, he has been there a couple of years and struggles to have any success amongst the students - Mind you, at the end of the day, no harm done picking up one who says she is a student, even if she really isnt [ at least she wont have to go off to school at 8am ]
Right on, Rhamkamheng isn't considered a real university anyhow.
But there are a lot of misconceptions here about students like:
One, TG's are really interested in farangs. Like TPE says it is considered a social step down unless the farang has buccuo baht.
Two, TG speak very good English. Most do not. In fact although most uni girls learn English, they are better at reading and writing English. Too shy to practice speaking English and for the most part are always around Thai's speaking Thai so have very poor comprehension skills as opposed to BG's which are the opposite. In fact, some BG's have poor Thai reading and writing skills. That means you should know Thai or the conversation falls flat very quickly.
Three, it takes some initiative on the man's part to hook-up with these girls. There have been a number of times that I brought a group of real uni girls to a function. While there have been some throw-aways in the group there was also some worthwild ones. Almost each and every time it ends up like a junior-high dance with girls on one side of the room and guys on the other. While many punters say they want uni girls they forget that under their clothes they are just punters and don't have the social skills for real uni girls and should opt out for a BG in a uni uniform.
So the better question should be...Where can I find a university uniform?
