Then again that could one day mean that the next time POLITE THAI SOCIETY walked into a bank to apply for a loan to build their next 10 story hotel there could be an Issarn lady sitting behind the desk with a smile on her face, a wai to greet them with, and her hand on the APPLICATION REJECTED rubber stamp. P rip - agreed and very good comments, but it is infact this trait, maybe borne out by many years of as you say ' rice in the field/fish in the pond' - so what else do we need, that has made the Issarn person by and large so lacksidaisical, easy going, mai pen rai, - something that in to-days world is not an asset, but does endear them to many stressed out farangs !

However when even basic jobs as sales girls at Robinsons are hard to come by then what other choice do most of them have except to take advantage of the only other OPPORTUNITY thats available to them. Neither side is going to change from one day to the next.
What is going on is the result of many years. Yes, in general "they" are one way. In general also the "others" treat them different; yes, maybe looking down on them. It happens in many places in the west also. It has also happened in every established group where all of a sudden there is an influx of new people arriving.
We farangs also have many problems of this kind backhome. I find it interesting for us to come here as holy knights champions of the cause of the Isaarn ladies when we may have the same problems back home; if not now now now, at least until very recently.
I think P-Rip point is that as an individual, you are to fight the problems and the odds by yourself. If you succeed as an individual, you are only one. But for a group to prove itself, the majority in the group have to do it. Some groups just do that everywhere they go when they move away from their places of origin. Some emigrants are better at working harder than others -it says something about the group as a whole.
As an individual, any business man, would also want the best. And as such, any employer would he himself also try to get the best employees for his business. It is not his job to try to do some social reforms at the expense of his own business. He would leave that to society at large. But what is society afterall?

I must say this. In all my years (only 7) in and out of LOS I haved lived, dined, done business with, f_cked, dated, ate, talked, et.c with Issan, Chinese, farang, Sikhn, Southern, Central, and Northern. I will take the company of a poor simple Issan anyday. This is completely opposite my background and upbring and maybe that is why I appreciate it. My probable future wife is a poor Issan peasant girl. I have been around some real stunners and some real smart, intellectural, well-educated Thai ladies, but my Issan girl is the best. Amazing, I've been with about 60-70 straight and Bgs and I have never met anyone I have had more in common with.
I must say, this is the best forum so far.

It's the Issarn that put our feet on their necks, not the other way around. 1) They give up their land for next to nothing. 2) They borrow from our banks and loan sharks and use the funds to pretty much just have a good time with. 3) And THEN they find themselves in financial situations that force migration to Bangkok (and other areas) to make a living. Non Issarn Thais can hardly have sympathy for those who do 1) and 2) and then whine about it when they have to do step 3).
