One thing good about most of Thai society, the family, friends of the girl, and your Thai friends will usually make you feel quite welcome. Ý ÝA farang friend of mine has fallen into the bar girl trap (and others have fallen into the "good girl" trap), and even I find myself giving words of encouragement to him "you're probably the best thing that ever happened to her, buddy." Don't know what u mean by 'trap'. There is nothing like experiencing a woman's love. To me that is not a 'trap' but something to be cherished, enjoyed and lived to the fullest extent. Not sure about thin ice eiether. Life is thin ice and a relationship could make that thin ice a lot thicker ice. Anyway that was my experience. Good luck.

Obviously it's not a trap if you don't want to get out. : )
The trap is the situation where the guy settles down with the first girl who is nice to him, the first girl he gets pregnant (in an unplanned manner), and any situation where two adults settle down where one party has an ulterior motive(s), etc.
It's typically thin ice when the financial situation is not firm and that the guy involved is the principle income source for an entire extended family (as opposed to say a family where you have 5-6 members all making roughly the same contribution).

... well guys, figure this - In my travels i got to ramkhamheng Uni this week, roll totals 600,000 - so thats 300,000 TGs, in the 18-25 age bracket, from reasonable families - amongst this lot I met a real nice farang Guy, a tutor, probably late 20's, he is a good looking guy, good family background, has been there a year, and serious about forming a genuine relationship/marrying a Thai girl - he is about to give up and go elsewhere, as one way and another, he has had no joy in his quest .... -
