Here is the latest in the ongoing saga of my long distance”relationship” with a BG from Laos.
So in the last phone conversation and email my TGF has stated if we go to Chiang Mai “No big hotel, I happy anyplace as long as I with you” Now the optimistic me would say "isn’t that nice", the real me (Pessimist) is thinking when she peeked at the bill from the Banyan Tree Phuket on our last trip together and saw that it was for over 100,000 Baht, she would rather I had spend that money on her, since in her mind any money I spend in Thailand is potentially hers anyway?

We can only try, I would never fly a plane into a building, but I can still try to understand the mindset that would!
But I get the gist of what you are saying; the life experience of a BG is so far removed from the western life experience that we may never achieve a high level of understanding because there is very little common ground.

My girls have stopped me from wasting money. Not because they know, or think the money is theirs, but simply because it's a waste. They like to be pampered, don't get me wrong, it's just that their standards of lavish are alot different, and spending money when it isn't necessary is simply a waste.
Give her your basic requirements for the hotel, ac, western toilet, etc., and let her pick one out.

No I am not sure that is the gist of what anyone is saying.
There are 2 points to consider:
First, there is no consistency to the 'fuzzy logic' of TGs.For instance, I can think of at least half a dozen possible explanations for your TGs comment “No big hotel, I happy anyplace as long as I with you”. She is being considerate, she is uncomfortable at big hotels, she thinks the food is rubbish, she wants the money spent on her, she didnt understand the question/answer etc.. One of these explanations may or may not be right and any explanation that is right today may be wrong tomorrow.
Secondly, and this is the important point, there is usually little or no correlation between a TGs thought process and what she says. E.G. a thought process such as 'I dont want to go out tonight because I am feeling tired' could easily come out of her mouth as 'I cant go out tonight as I have had my ID card stolen.'
Bearing this in mind you can see that it is impossible to even begin to understand their mindset from listening to what they have to say. (It is even possible that trying to understand might be damaging to your brain.)
It is more sensible to just go with the flow and allow her words and thoughts to glide over you in an ephemeral haze.

I am a little conflicted on the relationship; I like the attention, but don't trust her yet. I trying to go forward, but don't want to be taken advantage of? I am a relative newbie to the LOS scene and I’m trying not to make to many mistakes, and really do enjoy the GFE I am getting from her.
