I'm an Asian that grew up in White America (NorthEast), so I have had to deal with my share of "not fitting in". Currently I live in Hawaii (70% Asian) so it is a little better but I feel truly comfortable in Thailand because there it is 99.99% Asians, I can pass for Chinese-Thai (until I open my mouth), and Thais in general are a peaceful and accepting people. Every girl is different towards certain races, some won't go with because of past experiences, others won't go because they never have before, while others seek will out certain races. It can be frustrating because nobody likes to be rejected but its up to you to find the right girl for you. If a girl is not interested, respect her thinking and don't force the issue, they'll be plenty more everywhere. Its true, it may be harder for a black person to hook up simply because there just isn't a high number of black people around but you will be able to hook up, trust me. Its just a matter of your presentation and delivery. Thai Girls above all things (except money) will prefer to go with someone that is "jai-dee" (good heart), so play up that card.
In the US, they just tell you to take a hike and you get the picture right away, Thai girls don't like confrontation so even when rejecting you, they will be very sweet and smile alot and you won't hear "No!" but rather "I tired" or "I wait somebody" or "I no good for you". All may be true or not but means that they would rather not. Smile back and move on.
One girl I talked to wouldn't go with me no matter what I said, then she heard me talk to my friend and said "OK, I go with you". When I asked her why the change, she said she thought I was from Singapore (had a bad experience with a SIN guy) but heard my English (I was talking to her in my broken Thai prior) and realized I was from America and so I was "OK". I was still the same guy offering the same things but one slight difference. - Go figure!

When you first go into a bar you may find the girls a little cool toward you. What I do to break the ice, SMILE, SMILE and a hearty hello to all the girls. I play the bar games with the girls, I play the dice game and I tell the girls, I will buy a total of 5 ladydrinks and if the girl wins I buy her one. Usally takes about an hour for all the girls to go thru 5 drinks. During this time I talk to all the girls and I don't buy any drinks they must win the drinks, girls are more then ok with this. Keep smiling and laughing and the girls will warm up to you. If you come back the next day it will be alot easier for you. I'm 55 y/o bearded, balding and fat and I seem to be a "chick magnet" using this line. I'm also a walking ATM.

hey Don.. you are unfortunatly in a bad spot.. especially with regards to picking up non working girls... working girls are one thing and all my BG friends usually dont 'like' (really general term here sorry buddy) black men... and trying to pick up what i call Legit Girls is even a tougher go because Mae or Pee Sao are usally very close by and they dont usually go for that... mykals advice is very good.. but lets face it, it is going to be hard work... I did hangout with a few black friends from the SanFran Bay Area a few nights at the NEP and it was a hard go for them to get the same kind of attention as the white boys in our group... it is a shame and it makes me angry on a whole bunch of differnt levels... but damn it if prejudice isnt every where!

Hey Don it is not that bad dude. ÝBelieve me. ÝI get a very favorable reaction from those in the go go who come to me so thats what I do, wait for them. ÝI have also had some great times when I have broken that rule. ÝLike I said the sit down part of it means a lot because you both get to impose your personalities on each other and believe me, after a sit down, I have changed my take out opinions about her! ÝSo take your time. ÝAlso, in Pattaya you will get a lot of play. ÝI had one girl COME RUNNING OUT OF HER HOUSE when I got lost in Pattaya to tell me where she worked and to get my ass over there for a drink. ÝI would say you will barely notice any racism in the go go scene. ÝBangkok outside of that is a little worse but not that bad. ÝRemeber there are things that will tick you off about Thailand and some racism is included but it is outweighted by the great time the girl of your choice can show you. ÝLike I said I have never had a bad choice.
I think it is so slight Don that it is pretty much negligible as far as your vacation experience goes. ÝJust remember lines are optional, so is staring at people. They do stare those damn expats and other white vacationers too. Funny it always seems like they stare when you get a lot of attention in the go go. Watch the expats. I have had political/opinion run ins with them before. (some on this board) They will chastise you for engaging in your beliefs while they are doing the same things to a different extent. Just my opinion and not all expats in general are like that but there are a few of them. Things we take for granted here are a little different there. ÝLike the Grand Palace admission charges for foreigners. ÝSometimes you want to say they are a bit racist but the double standard is for white folks too! ÝSo that brings a lot of my thoughts back to reality about racism. ÝIn Thailand to an extent the whole damn country is racist!

Well that setts my tone about it. "pre-pare for it" and dont expect every one to like me off the baht..
But reading your trip reports, I fully understand your position.
Here in L.A. im a bit laxxed when it comes to chasin.
But time wont allow me to be picky when im there to get the "full vibe" for selection or reception to my color.
I think im somewhat attractive and i get that " he can do better than that" alot when i jus settle for the six.
But , like you the 6 may jus my propell herself into your lap. what can you do but f_ck her. Ive been in that position many times. Race wise i take a chance by dating outside my racce knownin before i start i must hurdle pre-conceptions.
Then theres a dolar issue which is similar to the racial divide. You wanna come off in a non-military respectable young handsome single stud from the states, Bu you dont wanna come off as RICH or so much better off.
I dont want to be catagorized as monkey or ATM..

What Mykal said about drugs is worth listening to. Drugs are a tricky business for any farang, but I have to think that they are especially dangerous for non-whites. The girls may have subtle prejudices, but many of the guys will have an active dislike for you because of your race (born out of their own feelings of insecurity and inferiority). It would be prudent not to give them any excuse.

Forget all this nonsense about colour. Not matter where you are from and/or what colour you are, remember, you are an ambassador for your country/colour/race...
If people have racist thoughts, it is because they have preconceptions. It's up to you to teach them by example, not to get mad because they have them. Agreed?
By the way don't insult apes. Some of them will have better behaviour than some of the humans you will meet.
You black guys, get over it. The whole world is racist. Why do you think that you should have special treatment?

Basically most of asia is racist. think about japan, china and mostly korea! thailand is just like any other country in the world. living in thailand as a farang i can feel how the turks must feel in germany or others in other states. sure sometimes i hate thailand for not being equal as a farang to the thais and never will be equal to them no matter how nice i treat everybody here in thailand. (every little rice famer will have more rights in thailand in a courtcase than i do have even if i am right! / look at the entrance fees for so many things Thai and farang prices / buying property etc., etc.!!!)
yes, they are racist but still it is a nice country to live in after all!
I agree on the above said, everybody is an ambassador for ones each country of origin. Unfortunately there are a lot of people coming to Thailand and treating the people in a 'colonial' attitude and way they would not dare in there own home countries.
certainly not a good approach which does turn thailand a little more anti racist.
It shocks me to see hords of beer bellied german who demand the same efficency and quality as in germany - or permanent drunken tattooed english hooligans shouting around like hell - or americans with their lousy dress manners in an i can buy the world attitude, as we are the masters of the world approach - or some japanese who still act like the rule the asian continet with their sick sex practices and no respect attitude towards any thai female - or frenchs talking in french with the shop clercs not even trying to adapt to english and complaining about everything mainly the food, didn't they realise that thai food is also verry excellent.
Just generalisations but we should not wonder that racism is still abundant in thailand as there are so many confirmed prejudices.
just stop behaving the way you would not dare to behave in your own countries and start being a good ambassador for your own sake!!!
