Once again, I find myself in total agreement with Mr. Smegma. Odious tincture, that. Dr. von Quack!
I think we are all in agreement here ( is that possible ?), if you want best Mexican beer, go to Mexico. However, with BL, maybe he thinks London has the best Mexican beer.

it does not take a rocket scientist to know that ethnic food in its own home country has got to be better than when it is exported. But if you want to believe that London has better Chinese food than Hong Kong and Taiwan, then I have some real good Fish and Chip place in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf area that I am sure you will find the best in the world..........55555. BTW, I have eaten Chinese food ( a dim sum place near the Hyde Park area, supposedly one of the best in London) outside of London's Chinatown. I can tell you no Hong Kong Chinese will give that place higher than a 7. I was taken there by a Chinese lady from Hong Kong married to a Brit and have lived in London for about 30 years. Case closed.
Oh yes that place near Hyde Park, so famous you can't even remember the name, well I guess case is closed, how could anyone question that wisdom. Unless of course we look at this list of the top 50 restaurants in the world http://www.worldpress.org/Europe/1920.cfm Number 14 Hakkasan, a Chinese restaurant in London, in fact it's the Top rated Chinese restaurant in the world. The top Hong Kong restaurant comes in at no 46 - Felix and it isn't even chinese. Why don't you try Hakkasan next time you're in London so you can give it a 7, I'm sure they will be very happy to have the patronage of such a cultured man as yourself. Of course thats if you can bear to leave your shorts and sandals at home.

back topic: eating out well in LOS is my other pursuit and if I bring a lady I ask her if she's OK to go, her reaction will tell if she is or not. Never mind the looks of staff or customers; staff is generally *very* wellcoming to the lady (TIT after all), other customers... why worry about that?

I think other people have given it a "7". Go to the web and read the review on Hakkasan by London diners. In my original post, I said "most" Chinese food in London is crap. Did not say "all". Anyway, #1 in the world according to your favorite food review website is : French Laundry in Napa!! Haha, America #1 again ! who says American food is just junk ? Come to Napa, we will show you what good food should taste like and with you strong euros, you should not have to pay the outrageous London price. BTW, are you also the one looking for Russian stunners in BKK ? Best Mexican beers in US and best French restaurant in China ? Damn, you got lot of time on your hand.

You're getting quicker manowar it was only 2 pages ago that I told you the no 1 voted restaurant was in california, and it wasn't me that said US food was junk. The Euro is not the currency in the UK. and i've certainly never mentioned russian girls in bangkok, chinese restaurants in china, or mexican beer in the us. I'll give you a clue, my posts are the ones with the broken leg name attached to them.

I know you are ( or have) "broken something", but please try to think slowly (there will be a test later). Obviously, anyone from anywhere can come up with a list of the world's 10, 20 or 50 best restaurants. But if I am right, most people will go to France and ask the French what the best French restaturant in the world is, come to the US and ask the Americans what the best American restaurant in the world is and go to Hong Kong, Taiwan or China and ask the Chinese what the best Chinese restaurant in the world is. They surely will not ask a Chinese in Beijin what the best Indian restaurant in the world is, and most definitely will not ask a Brit in BKK what the best Chinese restaurant in the world is. Is that all clear ? 555555555

Quote: from Bombphewy on 1:51 am on Mar. 16, 2005 Sometimes its nice to take your girl out for a nice dinner. However I've noticed you don't get the nice Thai smile at the restaurant.
Try a different restaurant where the staff doesn't think their shit don't stink.
I agree. BUT, I also want to add that maybe you need to go to a quality restaurant. I've taken ton's of tg's / bg's out to restaurants nice and hole in the wall ones and have never had a wait staff treat her without the utmost respect. At least "showing" face. Of course, what they say in Thai behind our backs.. who knows!! ha ha ha!! AND.... not that this should matter, but if your so-called "date" has not manners and shows no class, then maybe that also could contribute to the staff givin' you the "stink eye". ** I'm not saying your dates are that way, I'm just maing a point! **

Manowar All this talk about what the best Restaurant is of any nationality is totally spurious. Even allowing your assertion that for example the Chinese are best placed to nominate their own best Chinese restaurant, this is still only the opinion of the judging panel that makes these awards. Have those panel members been to every Restaurant in China, or only the ones that put themselves up for nomination? Perhaps backhanders or nepotism enters the equation sometimes. Also, as RTB points out, which Chinese cuisine? Cantonese, Mandarin, Szechuan, etc? Is one region's cuisine better than the other? So, if you're following me so far, it is only a small step to progress the argument a little further. If say an American lived in China and had visited several of the provinces during a very long stay there and was also a bit of a gastronaut and bon viveur, would he be able to pass reasonable judgement on whether a Chinese Restaurant was of a good standard if he came across it in Switzerland, or Brazil or Swaziland? I would say yes. He might even be a better judge of Chinese restaurant food than most Chinese, who might not often frequent restaurants or who have never eaten food from other regions of China. The same applies to some members of this Forum, who are well travelled, have sampled the cuisines of several countries and are well enough educated gastronomically to express opinions on culinary matters.
