Nic, as I don't travel to los more than 2 x a year I don't have the time to sample the full catalogue of girls on offer at the preferred Oilies. However of the girls sampled I usually come to the same conclusion regarding service levels you have reported so I congratulate you on providing these informative reports. If there were more to add regarding a girl I would but as an ardent Oily monger you are usually ahead of the pack...good one

Final update on this thread I think.
Saw this girl again recently. As usual, call her and she comes over within the hour. Gotta give her points for being punctual.
This time, though she upped the ante asking for 3K baht. I declined and paid her the normal fare 2K + taxi fare. Doubtful I'll see her again.
I used the "sorry babe I ain't got it" suggestion so thanks to whoever suggested it.

That's disappointing for you. I thought it had a decent chance of being a one-off.
Looks like she's going up in the world. Maybe she's discovered the Internet, has gullible/rich contacts on that and/or is working in other, more profitable, venues like MPs and G-Clubs part-time where she meets guys willing to spend more. Whatever, it looks like she's got used to the bigger bucks.

I know you have been here a while, Nic, However, I'm afraid that after living and working with Thai men as well for over a decade, I have to say that I believe there is a good deal of myth in this statement of yours, though I have read it more than once on this forum.
Thai men are not some kind of ruthless Kubla Khan that can level women into their respective social classes with an iron hand, though to our eyes we may wish that ideal existed, out of some sense of defense against our feelings...
From what I've seen, the girls play the same games with their own people, even worse, and can be quite bitchy and manipulative. If there is any difference, it is mostly in the language competency (which most foreigners don't have), and the men are often just as bitchy and manipulative. That is, they will often as you say "put them in their place" but that doesn't mean that the manipulative emotional Thai man doesn't fall in love too. He's so unreasonable, he's generally falling in love and out of love all over the place with several girls at once and trying to enforce jealous relationships on them all.
Granted, his idea, depending on his social class, may temper his relationship in the category of marriage--that is there are some he would marry and some he would not and some he thinks are only good for certain things and some good for nothing, some beautiful and others ugly--but that doesn't make him some kind of emotionally controlled juggernaut, always aware of his place in society. Not at all. With his lame uni degree from a lame university, he's a mess pushed around by myriad preconceptions and demagogic trainings colliding with his immense male human urges.
Like all of us, it is the men, Thai or otherwise, that become conscious of their desires and how they react to them, that have the potential for happier lives. I have met a few Thai men, good men, who have begun this as well.
Few men of any culture are going to develop the capacity for consistent maturity and compassion in any relationship with women. Maybe you have, Nic, to the degree you allow yourself; I don't know, since you admit having been able to restrain certain kinds of love so far. That's probably good for you. Young men can develop themselves before starting a family.
This all being said about Thai men, I have met a few wonderful girls with whom I was their first Westerner ever; they were very sweet and generous with a good sense of duty. But this had to do with a combination of family, culture, and individual character as much as it would have to do with their fathers, brothers, lovers, etc. And not all of them were sweet at all, and showed me many things about how they were used to dealing with men. To continue this, I have also met many girls who have had more Western guys than they could count, who were also sweet and generous. So there are many factors involved with every individual. In this respect, women are in the same boat as men.
I do understand that it's uncomfortable for many people to haggle prices, especially about something concerning one of their deepest needs and everything that correlates to it. However, I do not understand it as a dilemma. Just be sincere, firm (what I think you are really suggesting, Nic), and honest about what you will pay and won't, and things usually work out, so far as I know. I've had girls for free here and others that have asked for too much. I gave the free girls something anyway, and the ones that asked for too much I just explained to them the law of supply and demand. The rest is up to their own negotiating maturity. It's not a dilemma; there are plenty of girls around. You have to take it easy... relax... it's for fun.

It seems like there are 2 or 3 different topics woven into this thread now.
I'd agree with seajohn. I see Thai men being manipulated, giving in, sucking up to girls, girls pulling stunts with them too.
I think the ruthless Thai man is one of the Internet myths bandied around, along with 'Thais will put out a contract on anyone who crosses them for a good deal of money' idea. (Instead, I see Thais get angry, make noise, but ultimately suck it up when they're swindled - just like the rest of us).
