WOW, I made this thread 8 years ago and its still going strong... since 2002 I have been to thailand 6 times! and

well, at the begining of this old man's journey u get smitten by the isaan girls.... then after u get hooked on them you realize they arew simple rice farmers and that the pretty ones all hang out in a different part of town.... but for many of us... myself included, it's too late....
You have been upcountry, latched onto one full time and then after you bring her back to your country you realize she is dumb as a stump.
Sure, she takes great care of you, is loving, supportive etc.... but she ain't no brain.

She is a country bumpkin, a simpleton, a rice farmer...... not a deep thinker.

As they get older they find where the "isaan express" bus is located to take them to BKK......
Where their mothers send them to make money to take care of the family......
On a serious note I have taught my wife some important english phrases.... like: Silent but deadly... she says this when she farts and no one can here it... she still giggles when she blurts out "silent but deadly".
The other phrase she uses is when she has to take a shit very badly and she feels it starting to come out: "the turtle is showing its head".
Now imagine I am sitting there watching tv and out of no where she says these things.... I just smile and say "yes Tirac, time to go poop".

... depending upon what sort they are, they might accept a graciously offered tip.
... but... better to describe it as an offer to help pay for their whatever... at some time during your time together, perhaps they will mention how they are supporting family, or had a big medical bill to pay for a family member, or they have a school age child you could help with tuition, or helping to pay for their trip home to visit their family... (those last two go a long way toward showing your 'good heart', which really counts here).
... you can come up with a good excuse that will allow them to save face... these sorts really don't want to be considered professionals.
... and for God's sake, put it in an envelope... or, better still, in a nice card.
