So I get a call from MyFav this morning crying about an accident, no ATM, no Passport, no Mobile. I couldn't understand the details, but she sounded very upset.

I get an email later today saying her purse was stolen and she lost all the above plus the talking dictionary I got her on my last visit.

I have heard about the "lost" phone Scam on this board, so now think she may have sold it and the talking dictionary and be using this as an excuse for not having them when I see her again.

Now I should be able to get to the bottom of this when I see her by taking a quick look at her passport, should be pretty ease to tell if it is a new one since her old one was very beat-up. Plus wouldn’t she want to keep the SIM if she sold the phone, and she called me from a friend’s phone number?

Because of this I tend to believe her story, am I fooling myself?

[Edit] BK please add a ? to the topic... Opps.

All of these things just happen to be in her purse at the same time.

Sounds fishie to me, but time will tell

Well the mobile makes sense, she is from Laos so the Passport makes sense, her english is weak and she did keep the talking Dict in her purse when I was last with her so that makes sense also...

I did say I have a soft spot for this girl and may not think with 100% clarity when she is involved, that is why I’m asking you guys.

I've had similar tales from BGs telling me they've had money stolen from their lockers, had their handbag stolen by a motorcy' taxi on Petchburi Rd., put their handbag down on a counter in a bank to write a deposit form and then it was gone etc.

I asked very specific questions about the incident e.g., when did it happen, who was there, did they tell the police etc., and in every case the girls admitted that it was a pack of lies and they had lost the money playin' cards.

I dunno if your BG is of the lieing variety but just ask her some very specific questions to see if her story holds out. I asked the BG who lost her handbag in the bank to get the bank to produce the videos. I explained that there are video cameras in the bank and they will be able to see her and the thief. She caved!

If you find out she's liein' then you know what to do, if she's tellin' the truth, how much is a new mobile, passport.....

Cheers

Lost purses are very common with the girls, most of the time (if true) it is stolen in the span of 2 seconds. Usually, the contents of the purse do include the items you mentioned. For guys, mobiles are commonly lost in taxis (if you put together all the guys I know who have done this, we could start up our own store at MBK).

If someone loses a mobile, they can go fill out a police report, take that report to the phone company (AIS, DTAC, etc) and they will give that person another SIM card with the same #, so pretty soon, you will be able to call her at that # again.

If her english is limited, you may have difficulty getting answers (especially over the phone) but see what you can gather up and you will be able to check out her passport the next time you see her. Plus it doesn't sound like she was asking you for money, maybe she was telling you so you wouldnt get worried when you called and there was no answer.

Some girls actually tell the truth...

Hi, Compexec1!

Good suggestions from the previous posters!!! Did you ask your girlfriend if she has filled a complaint at the police station? Ask her more details and see what she says.

Yes, sh*t can happen, but this kind of "accident" occurs frequently to thai ladies who have a farang boyfriend. I am not saying that she lies, but IMHO, it is not a "good sign", if you remember what I already have written in another thread about gifts "lost" or "stolen"...

You know her better than all of us, but you should consider the situation with objectivity after you gathered all the necessary information about this "accident". If you have any doubt about your girlfriend after another check, I do believe that the best thing to do then is to stop this relationship.

But it's "up to you", man! There is still the possibility that she tells the truth, indeed...

Considering how many bros/TG's have lost or got cell phones stolen I would invest heavly in Nokia.

The gist of the email was MyFav asking me not to be mad at her for not taking good care of the nice things I gave her. No she didn't ask for any money.

Had my new Nokia for less then two hours before it was stolen at Carribean a couple weeks ago. Didnt even get a chance to figure out how the 15 minute video worked. I expected it was one of the waiters. No tips next time!
