As a spin off to the sposorship thread regarding how many sponsors etc. I was wondering if any members or even regular readers are actually sponsoring a girl.
Before I moved to LOS I spent hours reading this site and forum and, I'm happy to say, I was incredibly well informed of almost every situation I eventually encountered. (Thanks guys).
I read the stories of farangs being fleeced and it strikes me as absurd that so much of it goes on. I'm assuming these poor guys haven't read any BKK sites and are pretty much ignorant to the wily way of the bargirl.
Is anyone here sending money to a bargirl?

I used to send a small sum to a singer who turned into a bargirl. I guess the money gave her some incentive to broaden her career options.....
Too bad she got greedy......with 5 or 6 of me, she could have semi-retired. I admit I had the voice in the back of my mind to say "Don't be stupid"....but I thought I would treat it as a social experiment as the money was really insignificant on my part.

I met a girl one of the islands, she was on holiday at the time and staying with a girlfriend for a day or 2.
I checked, yes.
We had a good time for a few days, I bought her everything she needed/wanted, but no cash was asked for or given.
She lived & worked on another island.
She was trying to set up a small business. Anyway, next time I saw her it was up and running.
Since then she's told me her farang boyfriend was sponsoring her 20,000 baht / month - they've now split up.
We met up again recently, and this time at the end of the stay I gave her 1500 / day.
May I add, she is not a bar girl, in fact she looks down on them. She's since tried to get me to send her some cash - for rent - but I've basically said no, and we're no longer friends.
It's my view that a thai should be able to live on less than 10 000 / month unless they develop bad spending habits. Is that a fair estimate?
I also think that if they are given more money, they will spend it on crap.
I do not intend to send money to girls - straight or otherwise. As LY said, "cash on delivery"

Guess what Tu, I'm seriously thinking of a new form of sponsorship/support....I have to confess that I can't forget my candy and now that I know she's off the bar biz for good and working as a waitress in a regular pub in Sukh, I'm pondering the idea of seeing her time to time and add some extra cash to her monthly budget....
I love that she decided not to go back to the bars after I helped clearing out some debts and she's actually pursuing a better life: less cash but more self respect.....
Btw, I'm a weak and horrible creature......sigh!

Caronte there are many naysayers that say it does not work and I have met many girls still at bars with one or multiple sponsers. For success it takes :
One, a girl who truely does not want to work in a bar. You usually can spot ones that really hate to dance on stage in a bikini because they are shy.
Two, a girl who has a goal and something to keep her busy, such as starting her own business or going to school and I mean a real univsersity.
Three, that you the sponser lives here to keep here honest. I have found many a BG who continues to work just to get fcuked as shes says "You know I am horny and my guy is not around to satisfy me"
