Does one's nationality count in any way when negotiating or being with a bargirl?
I am Swiss and English. I could claim to be German too. Or French.
Is there any advantage in claiming to be one or the other?

It probably depends on what kind of relationship you want to establish with the girl. IMHO, it is usually easier to simply tell the truth.
Most of the girls won't really care from where you come (amongst those European countries), even if it is probably their first or second standard question that they ask to all the farangs they meet.
Students are probably more interested in having a relationship with an English native speaker.
When the girls know I am French, they usually think that I will offer them perfumes and they presume that I know everything about fashion (!!!), so I am often asked to help them in their shopping time!!!
Geopolitics are not usually taken into account!

Not too many TG's will care about the exact nationality of a farang. They don't see as much difference as you do between different Western Europeans or even Americans. If you are clean and dress at least as well as the average farang (in BKK), then you will not have any trouble attracting TG’s.
But if you insist on making a distinction, I would tell them you are a Swiss banker.

They must not come from Chiang Mai. While there, I came across a shop (closed, door pulled down) with a sign that said only "Jew Shop".
Never did find out what it sold. Got a picture of the sign, though. 
As for nationality, recent research suggests that German may not be the best. While sitting at an outdoor bar, one girl asked the girl next to me what nationality I was. As part of the discussion, she apparently said "he'd better not be one of those f'ing Germans." (this was the approximate wording relayed to me)
Apparently they felt that Germans looked down upon the girls. This may have some relation to the rumor I heard about Germans having more successful marriages with thai women - they simply didnt take any crap from them, squashing dissent promptly.
