Just a quick comment. They are not interested in you or how much money you have in the bank. They are interested in her, what she does/has been doing, education, english language ability, etc. If you found her in a bar, be prepared for a rough (if not impossible) ride.

CalEdens suggestion is a good one. That Forum will tell you everything you need to know on the question of Visas.
If you wish to have her here on a Visitor's visa, then it very much does matter how much money you have in the bank, as unless she can prove that she has enough money in her account to support herself comfortably, then you will have to act as her sponsor. You will need to furnish them with copious amounts of information about your accommodation, bank accounts etc.
As ftumch says, if she is a BG, then you'll find it very hard to get her over here. They'd naturally be worried that she would work as a prostitute here.
The two things that they will be looking at before granting a visa, are the ability to support herself, or be sponsored to the extent that she costs the State nothing, and then she must prove good reason to return. Having young children is in itself not good reason to wish to return, would you believe?
The two main reasons would be either a good job with a written confirmation that it is being held open for her return, or ownership of land / property.
Fiancee visa is more likely to succed, provided that you can prove the strength of the relationship. Spouse's Visa is almost certain to succeed in 90% of cases, but to apply for either of those visas, your commitment to the girl is going to be pretty serious, eh?
I've had a former G/F over here on a Visitor's visa a year ago, but my fiancee will hopefully be coming here on a Spouse's visa in early July

The point I was trying to make was that they are looking at her not him. So far as I am aware his sponsorship doesn't count for much. More important (as you point out) are her having a steady (real) job, a reason to return, etc.
I dont care if he's loaded and providing all sorts of guarantees, if they think that she is a hooker they arent going to give her one (a visa I mean).

This is not my understanding. I was under the impression that the embassy staff will look at your relationship. If you met her in a bar two years ago & are still seeing her regularly then the staff would look favourably on this.
If you met her in a bar two years ago & have only seen her four times for two weeks each time then this may not be suffiecient proof that a relationship exists.
The embassy will look more at your relationship than her job. However, they know that relationships with bar girls are more tenuous than others & this may have some bearing on their decision.

that deppends on what visa you asking for. Some people have to wait like 8 month. But as they say before me her. Spend some money give her a propper jobb like many hair salons can write a "statment" she is working there. Open a Bank account for her pay here 20 000 THB of salary from Thailand to Thailand that will help. They need a reason for her to come back if they think she is not comming back they will not grant you a visa for sure.

My TGF was employed as a receptionist in a reputable company, for the interview she was wearing a lovely new black skirt and jacket suit, we had a letter from the landlord of our apartment stating that we had been living there together for 2 years, we had the original of the signed paid-up lease agrement for the next year, we presented return flight tickets, copies of my TGF's bank account showed over Baht 100k that had been built up over a year, my bank account showed a coupla million baht steadily built up over a few years, I offered a letter from my sister to say we would be staying with her for the 2 weeks, I gave a letter from my employer confirming that I was the GM of the company with a "healthy" salary, blue book etc.
But they refused my TGF who was asking for a single entry/exit visa without even interviewing me although I had introduced myself to the interviewer!
Whilst consoling my sobbing TGF, I asked for an explanation and the interviewer said that she wasn't convinced that my TGF had sufficient cause to return to LOS.
Next month we marched in and my TGF offered virtually the same paperwork and was given a visit visa within about 10 minutes!
I reckon it's 'bout the same chance as you have of passin' your practical driving test. If the examiner doesn't want you to pass then you're not going to pass, no matter if your the most careful driver in the country, if the driver didn't get his/her leg over the night before then you're gona fail!

I reckon Brocher is right, First time we went we were refused due to "lack of evidence of relationship" they wanted letters emails,photos etc to prove we had known each other a long time. I got my local travel agaent to write a letter stating we had travelled together around Thailand and Asia for the previous two years and it was granted.
A couple of years later we were queuing outside the Embassy for our third or fourth visa (no problems after you get the first) and I was talking to this guy from Liverpool who had only known his girl for three weeks,he had no job and no house in the UK and she looked like the typical BG with the short skirt and tattoos. I was thinking to myself "you're wasting your time and money"
I saw him again outside and she had sailed through in about two minutes. Visa granted and to be picked up that afternoon. I reckon it depends on their mood and how many they have issued that week or month.
Maybe they have a quota they have to get rid of ! so if you catch them at the right time you are in luck.

It Could be down to Luck.
However I would suggest that Brocher brings up a very interesting point.
What seems to be an uncontrolable factor is the TG's interview technique. Obviously in the case of Brocher practically everything was done prior to the interview to ensure that a succesful application was being made. But what happened at the interview? what questions were asked? and how were they answered?
I used to work in recruitment, and I have witnessed on many occasions applicants with exactly the right knowledge and skills being turned down for the job because of poor interview technique, and I think to just assume your TG will be given a fair and just hearing in this situation is being somewhat nieve. To the contrary it appears that they look for reasons to reject an application rather than to grant one.
It might be worthwhile for others attempting to obtain visa for those with experience of going through this procedure to provide a list of questions that are asked. From there you can work out how to answer these questions- basically what the embassy needs to hear, and also most importantly practise with your TG, make sure you know what she is going to say or how she will react.
This is vitally important and should not be underestimated in an interview situation and could well be the reason many are not getting through. Afterall if she is falling down on the question of why will you return to Thailand? You need to make sure her reason is convincing up to the level the embassy wants, that it will stand up when she is cross examined and that she sounds convincing and confident when she answers.
