The cynic in me says that all they want is more money.
Above all gold is prized - but I don't go there.
From my limited experience with the few P4P TG's that rated a gift from me.
Anything personal is nice, regardless of how cheap or otherwise. If it can be engraved or embroidered with their name they really dig that.
Clothing from your home country (tourist type) T-Shirts etc, but make it as tasteful as this sort of gift allows. Make sure it does not have a made in China tag.
Fake perfume is out. 1. They know a fake - girls are like that 2. If they wera perfume, they probably have a favourite & wear that only 3. They some times think you give perfume because you think they stink.
Strangely enough, they don't seem to mind a fake watch, so I will often let them choose one from a dodgy vendor.
Sexy underwear is good, but size is a problem (I always get it wrong). Taking them shopping for it, or any clothes can be fun, but can end up costly - set your limits first.
I've heard chocolates are much appreciated, but I haven't tried that.

Whats the "deal"...you say you just want to do it to be nice, but the above implies that the "gift" is consideration for something else.... 
As scobie says....no need to add to the deal...I'm sure the girl would prefer a tip over a stuffed animal or some chocolate....Unless its something that they really need or they are fabulous actors, you may find yourself disappointed with their reaction to your gift.....
As an example, I was talking to a girl in a gogo and we were talking about her young daughter and children generally….While I wasn’t attracted to her, she seemed ‘jai dee’. Before I left I slipped her 100 baht and told her to buy her daughter something (Whether she did or didn’t is unimportant to me). However, she was over the moon with the 100 baht and hugged and kissed me etc etc…..I would say that I wouldn’t have got such a reaction to giving her some Swiss chocolate which probably would have cost more…..
Up to you, just don’t build your expectations up too high……
