Hello everybody,
I wonder what opportunities my tgf have to start studying Mathayom 3-6 for grown ups (kind of nightschool) and english at an english school. Now she only has prathom 6 I believe. I´m thinking of sponsoring but I don´t want to start now if that would mean I would have to wait say six months before she could enroll somewhere. Any sponsors with experience out there who could enlighten me? BTW I´m not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but I hope so.

Try Ramkhamheng uni and ABAC. I am sure that one of them helps with school graduation. Maybe in their summer school classes.
Depending on the age of the girl, how far out of M6 is she?

another good way is to buy her a cheap laptop and IM her everyday.. she will learn under fire reading and writing..... get her a dictionary and watch her learn.... keep her on for a few hours a day and it is about as close to immersion as you can get..

There is a "good" school where your TGF can complete her Mattayom 6 stuff with weekend only attendance required. My TGF just finished up and got her G.E.D. in April of this year at this school. It's in the large wat on north side of Sukhumvit near the Ekkamai BTS station.
But for the G.E.D. to be real, she will have to endure real "skoon." Taksin's revamp of the gradeschool/secondary school system, with, as I recall, the support of the Queen of Thailand, means that the adult ed courses my TGF was taking at that that school were required to follow the kinds of books they'd use in a real school for kids. These books are not trivial, and the later Mattayom years books cover algrebra, geometry, science, chemistry, physics, language (Thai and English).
That means your TGF would have to be ready for a real time committment during the week. It will take longer than the fly-by-night private weekend schools, as she will be exposed to a lot more stuff in realtime. And she will have to take tests in an environment that is harder to pass than the b.s. in the private weekend schools you see littering the city. In fact, with the revamping of the public schools, your TGF may not be able to pass the government certified tests if she goes to the cheapo private schools -- she simply won't be prepared to take them.
The weekend school at the wat is about as real as it gets in LOS -- doesn't say much by Western standards, but the difference between the private, weekend schools my TGF started with, and the wat-based one near Ekkami where she finished up were night and day. In the end, she actually learned something.
You might encourage her to also take auxilliary courses in computers, bookkeeping, etc. My TGF did, and is now ready to open her own business. It took 3 years for her to do all this, starting with Mattyom 3/4, so be forewarned. It changed her a lot, but for the better, I think.

Balls I have to say I´m very happy to hear that your TGF are doing so well. It was a long road I understand, but it must feel very rewarding now. There was a lot of useful info in your post and I´ll pass it along to my TGF for sure. Just one thing, if you have the time could you shed some light on the G.E.D. which I´m not familiar with.

I have been trying to get my TGF to go back to school also. She says she has found 2 schools. One in Pyathai and one in Lad Phrao. THey both have classes on Sundays and if you complete them you then "graduate" from school! Only then can you apply for Uni or even be considered for many jobs.
If I find out anymore I will let you know. Also, if you get any further details please let me know.
