Last week in Pattaya, walking back to my hotel at about 4am I happened across a farlang guy in his twenties. He was a little drunk, conversation started by him " Do you speak english" he proceeded to tell me he was beaten up by a couple of thai dudes down by the beach, said he had a broken toe.In my drunked state I gave him a quick look up and down, he had a razor blade slit about 3 inches long on his face, I didnt notice anything up regarding the toe but it was dark, once I saw the cut, I pulled 100 baht from my pocket, he asked can I spare anymore, so I gave him another 100. As I walked away I was in two minds to weather he was scaming me or not, the cut was the deciding factor regarding money exchange. If I was 100% certain he was really attacked I would have brought him to the police station/hospital/ got him a room for the night etc... It's a shame all these scammers make us harder people. Anyone else seen this guy in Pattaya, just thinking he could run this everynight, pull the skin apart open the wound and make a couple thousand baht a night.

Maybe not exactly a scammer but probably not a decent chap either... If I would have his problem I would directly walk/drive/whatever to a hospital and maybe ask people to help me with just that... I wouldn't stroll the streets in the middle of the night collecting money... A beach robbery/fight wouldn't take all of my funds away, the only financial damage would be a certain amount of cash... Even the loss of the last credit card (never take the last one with you regularly!) wouldn't make me go beging on the streets... there are other solutions... Good on ye to help the poor fellow anyway...

Scammer for sure..... why should he address you? Why should he need money from you... Just because he has a broken toe or a cut on his face? Where's his own money? Why you didn't offer him to bring him to Soi 9 to make a report. His response to that would give you a clear answer. I guess as long there are suckers by the lot in Bangkok and Pattaya these practices do not stop.

they would be fantasy for you, since you are probably incapable of doing things the way I do for me, they are reality, just like the stuff I posted about last weekend in Pattaya

Last trip was having breakfast on Soi 2 in PTY (sorry forum police) & watch a guy get off a motorcycle taxi about 7:30a.m., obviously in bad shape, I think he was still drunk, stumbling, bad hair etc. but as he turned to go into Sabai Inn I could clearly see a set of tire tracks across his backside on his shirt, anyway I thought he was gonna 'stiff' the taxi, he reached in his pocket & pulled out a giant handful of baht & paid the driver, who looked as suprised as I was I guess the point is even somebody who's been run over by a (baht bus?) had enough money to take care of themselve

People do such stupid things sometimes its really hard to tell a scam from just plain stupid. I remember seeing both men and women in Bangkok (got us back to the right topic for the thread police) drunk and passed out on the street one minute and begging for help the next. I don't think they were scamming, I think they have real problems. I remember one woman (farang) lying in the road near Suk. Boys in brown came, ambulance the whole 9 yards. In the end she has just partied to hard, passed out, got robbed and needed help. My personal habit is that if I can help someone with 100-200 baht and the gut says they really need it, I will. If it turns out they "scammed" me, they are up a little, I am down so little I don't care and Karma is on my side.
