Heading back to los in 2 months for Chinese New Year.
My Taiwanese sweetie won't let my mobile phone make the trip. Lack of trust, maybe ??? :) Can't say I blame her really. Anyway, can I rent one ? Maybe at the airport. About 8-10 days. It seems like fun to help keep track of some gals I meet and for late nite rendezvous and also to pretend a call is coming in during an encounter with a gal I want to break away from. Any help,fellas, with rental prices ?????

If you have a sim card, bring that - you can buy a mobile at MarBoonKrong for around 3000-4000 bt, if you need a number as well, may cost 5-6000 depending on what model you want, - this is a prepay number, and probably 800-900bt of your cost you get back in free, pre paid calls - just by a 1,2 call prepay card for 300 or 500 bt when you need a top up.

agree, cheapest way might be even taking your mobile phone and leave the sim card to your gf in taiwan. then you only have to buy a new prepaid sim card in mbk for about thb 1,200. this gives you your own thai number with an airtime credit of about thb 500.

I bring my cheapo Motorola with me from Taiwan, pop out my Taiwan sim card, and pop in a DTAC sim card for 300 baht, which gives you about 30 minutes of air time.
If that runs out, it can be topped up in minimum increments of 300 baht using cards bought at 7-11s.
Effective mobile comms for what's really loose change.
