I am slowly getting ready for my trip to thailand. A few friends of mine just got back and said..OMG..its like every foreigner you see has a thai girl friend...
and the places are just packed or foreigners...
and its well acually looks a little pathetic....
I Ýmean I want to get a girl just like the next guy..
but I don't want to be on some beach or some island, location etc...traveling by boat or trian and seeing 100 other foreigners with their companions too...makes me feel awkward....
can you recommend a place where I could go and get away from just being another farang with a thai bought girl friend....what about KO pi pi, or krabi etc...
I also want to check out the beautiful shores and oceans of thailand, not just insides of GOGO's etc...
BUT would like to bring a chick with me...
or are there BG available everywhere in Thailand?..

Oh for goodness sake Mysteryman!! You've gotta remember its DIFFERENT here. If you friend can't adapt to Thai "attitudes" then LOS is NOT for him. Its just the way its done. If your going to "hide away" whats the point in coming here in the 1st place?? The whole point is that your are "inconspicuous" BECAUSE everyone is doing it!!! Assuming you ARE coming here for the girl scene then just go with the flow and don't worry about it!!

If you really want to "hide", then may I suggest Samui Isalnd. It's a short flight from Bangkok. Nice and quite. The beaches are clean and beautiful. However, not much night live.
I think the best thing to do is to find a nice girl in Bangkok who you are comfortable with. Then fly out to Samui and spend a few nights there.

That all sounds kinda like what I was considering. Starting in Bangkok and working my way along the eastern coast. Something like this:
Bangkok- Pattaya- Ko Samet- Ko Chang
The plan being to have some random fun in Bangkok, then pick up a pretty travel companion in Pattaya, then hit the islands for some of the remote beaches and more relaxed vacation stuff. Out in the provinces it would be nice to have someone who can speak Thai.
For the whole island/beach thing you could hit Phuket if you really need the 4 star hotel and room service, but that isn't my idea of getting away from it all.

Sure there all the various bar, massage and fantasy themes of BKK, all of which are good fun and quite different experiences from each other.
The get away from it with a Thai girl is something else. Many girls are willing to take up with you for a few days and it could be great but the key here is flexibility. Hiring a car or motorbike is one way to get away from where this thread started with mysteryman. Without flexibility of transport it is more difficult to go to the non-farang hang outs. I have had some great times with TG in North East Thailand. No farangs there

I was thinking more in terms of some place like Phuket. Maybe a 5 star restort hotel away from the main beach but at the same time having the option of spending an evening in the touristy parts. Hadn't considered a total getaway with my own transportation.......worth looking into.

though I fully understand your point about a certain clischee (beerbelly+tiny chick, drinking early afternoon) I think the question is what one intends personally.
I first went to Thailand with family (believe it or not) on our regular "get away from it all" when we had suffered a long north-chinese winter. And I saw the chaps sitting round in the wayside bars Patong/Phuket mainly, where we went shopping when staying in Phuket Yacht Club. Yes, I said to myself, there THEY are. And latest on the flight back to Peking (where ÝI worked) I said to myself some more: "You want to be one of them, Peter!"
The next trip was by myself, now I try to be one-of-them, no: one-of-us as often as possible and think, it's really great!

You will find it difficult to go anywhere in Thailand without finding some fat bald farang with his tiny Thai GF,its the way it is,nobody gives a hoot,they;ve seen it all before.
I once spent 2 weeks in Phuket,picked up a stunning dancer from a bar on Patong after a few days then took her sightseeing for the next 3 days,she used to climb aboard the boats in mini-skirt and high heels much to the frowns of the family tourists who looked at me as some kind of sicko,the guys were probably gagging with envy.
Remember,in Thailand you never lose your girlfriend,only your turn !
