Hello everyone,
My name is Ian, I am from the UK and I am new to these forums, anyway, a quick question for you.
A friend I know Thailand (Bangkok) has my mobile number (UK number obviously) but she cannot get through, do you have to do anything special to the number to allow for it to reach Thailand and vice-versa?

I think that depends on your mobile provider and what kind of international roaming service they have. Check with your mobile phone company.

1) Make sure that international long distance dialing is turned on. They might not be allowed to make international calls without a significant security deposit.
2) Make sure that she is dialing 01-44-xxxxxxx. 01 is the international prefix in Thailand, IIRC, not 00 like in Europe or 011 as in the USA.
Those are the obvious two.

Hi,
I am currently using Orange (unsure of Tariff) and I have no call barring turned on, thanks for the prefixes when dialling.
Also, what happens regading SMS, do I just type the number in and press send? Or is it harder than that?

I have a DPrompt mobile from Thailand and to dial Canada I have to dial
001-1-(area code)-(telephone number)

you are right the international dial to call the UK would be 001-44-....!!!
also as mentioned before this girl will have to place a deposit to get the international call feature enabled.
this does not count for prepaid cards. wuth those you can call outside thailand as long as you have credit on the card. may be this would be an option for her jsutto buy a prepaid card for international calls. this way she also has full control on her costs!

the SMS think is tricky in some countries. You send the normal way, but sometimes the SMSs just go into some black hole. Fort Thailand sending to the major providers is working as at home. .. but check with your provider in UK, sometimes SMS to other countries is a rip off!!

She needs to dial 00 144 and then omit the first 0 of your mobile number.Sending sms should be easy I send to my GF all the time.

With some pre-paid mobiles, when sending SMS you need to use + instead of e.g. 00 11 to send a text message.
