At places like Thermae, I guess it is pretty easy to find a girl and work out an amount. Since the majority of the girls are there to conduct business. However, at somewhere like Hard Rock Cafe, how do you know which ones are the girls that will go back with you (there for business) and which ones are simply "good" Thai girls just there to eat dinner and have a good time? At Hard Rock or Nana Disco, if I see a girl I like, how do I approach her and ask her how much without risk of offending?
Also, I heard some absolute stunners are katoeys, is it rude to ask a girl if they are a katoey?

In places like Hard Rock or CM2... some times you get girls that are not freelancers. What I normally do is to assume that they are not freelancers, however 95% of the time, I find that they are. If they are not freelancers, and if I get to hit on them, great! If not, just pay for it.
Actually, it has been less hassle when you pay for it. It is those freebies that end up with banging on your door in the middle of the night and things like that.
Since you are assuming that they are NOT freelancers, just go through the small talk without mention of money, buy them a couple of B-52s... it is easy to drink and gets them drunk real quick! 
I guess you have to be absolutely thick-skinned to ask if "he/she" was a katoey. I guess sometime, I need to come up with katoey identification FAQ soon. One good place to practice distinguishing them is to go to King's Corner at Patpong. Spend a couple of hours there, get to know the mamasan (normally the older looking ones), buy them a drink or two, so that she can help you identify the real girls from the katoeys. Just don't take any girls out if you are not sure!  This is just a learning exercise. For a couple of examples, check out this site.

In THERMAE there is no need to be rude asking for the price since the very beggining....first take a beer to get you brave if it is your very first time and then screen the landscape for the one you like. a crossing sights first and if there is possitive feed-back get out of your damn table and approach the babe. Talk a bit and then request her if she wanna go out for a drink. If she says YES, tell her you like her very much and you would like her to go with you. Girls will inmediately understand and they will give you the price. Do NOT pay more than 1.000-1.500B in Thermae. You are advised.
I went to relax to the HARD ROCK Caffe last Monday. Same stuff, YEP it is difficult to approach to a girl for sex in those places BUT it is very easy to say hello to whoever girl you like. That is your first approach. YOU WON'T GET ANYTHING JUST SITTING AS A FOOL WITH THE WAITRESSES HANGING AROUND ASKING YOU FOR ANOTHER DRINK (200B each). Just take your beer, look the landscape, move around the bar, go to the bathroom as many times as you consider it is necesary to have a better close up of the girls and focus on the one you like and see whether they are accompanied by a man. My experience says that a Thai Girl accompanied by a man (farang or Thai) is NOT APPROACHABLE FOR SEX. Girls hanging on the Bar side ARE THE ONES. Just get closer and exhange hellos and you will inmdiately realize that they are for fun. Don't worry, take a beer and talk a bit with them, Why? Coz THEY ARE THERE TO FIND A NICE FARANG TO SLEEP WITH. Also consider that they do not work for the bar. Thus, they will only go out IF they like you. Following stuff is easy. be cool that's all!! make jokes, move yourself, be nice to them.
In NANA DISCO just exchange hellos. Invite them a drink (e.g. B-52 as posted by BK) "seems to be we have the same method...." Anyhow, ask them first if they want to go with you. Don't mention SEX word at all. Some of them don't go and some will be willing to. bah! That's not a problem, first approaches are based upon the rule BY TRIAL AND ERROR. However, if you miss your BABE, there are other sharks loking for the same prey.

Here is one more thing to keep in mind, when you are meeting a girl anywhere. Be prepared to pay, but do not offer to pay until asked. That way, if money is not asked, then you had it for free. With that in mind, just go out there and just make contact with the girls (the available ones).

Hey guys:
What are the expectations to pay for a freelance girl at places like Beergarden, RCA Royal City, CM2, Angels and Paradise? I have heard the Thermae girls range from 500b to 1500b (no more). Also, do the freelance girls all hang out by the bar? If you see a group of girls just talking to each other at a table, is it safe to assume they are "good" girls?
