I was in Bangkok in February '03 and met a wonderful girl. The meeting was arranged through a friend at work and it was originally just someone to meet me at the airport and see the sights of Thailand with. First, she has a respectable job and works full time as a nurse at one of the local hospitals. She is not a bargirl or freelancer. She has never asked me for money nor have I offered. As a matter of fact she paid for several things during my trip to Thailand. She calls on a regular basis and is trying to get a Visa to visit me in the states in a couple of months. The situation gets sticky because she is married but seperated from a Thai man. She says her parents do not want her to get a divorce and she believes the entire thing is her fault. I'm trying to understand her situation and why she can't walk away from the marriage. I have been to her apartment in Bangkok but just to see where she lives. She said it would look bad to bring a western man into her apartment. I can only send snail mail to her at the hospital and I'm wondering if she is still living with her husband and thats why I can't mail things to her home. She also mentioned meeting her parents on my next trip but this would probably make me very uncomfortable. What do you guys think? I'm not "in love" but I do care for herand the situation is certainly in my favor. What am I missing here? Should I just let things play out and see what happens? I will be back in October for 3 weeks and can hardly wait.

Guys,
I do care a lot about her but I'm not going to let myself fall in love with her when she is in a stuation she appears not to want out of. She has been seperated for years not days or months. Just like everyone else who has a job she gets time off and does not work 7 days a week or 24 hours per day. We took day trips on off days and did things after her normal work day. I would meet her at the hospital after her shift or she would pick me up at the hotel. She has a car and drove to Pattaya after work and we spent the next day in Pattaya. I did pay for most of the things we did together. She had a good job and makes great money. I could see myself falling in love with her but I don't understand staying in a situation for years with someone you are seperated from and have no desire to work things out with.

LS, it could be possible that there is some property involved or that the ex is still paying some bills. Also, you may have to consider a possibility. They may not be living together and she may have fallen out of love with this chap, but as far as he is concerned, he is still married with her. And she just doesn't have the courage to tell him, yet. This explains why she doesn't want to bring you to her apartment and why she doesn't want to know her address.

Sorry mate, sounds like you are being considered as a potential reason to do the paperwork for the divorce since I think she she is sniffing a new 'farang" husband who can open the key of magic FARANGLAND....
On the other hand, she might be really interested to have a nice relationship with you. I think the answer is resting on your side since youa r ethe one who has to decide what you really expect from this approach i.e. a bang? a real girlfriend? a fiance? or just some sanook!!???? ta ta ta taaaaaaaaaaannnnn
