Judging from some of the posts (I recall field reports), new visitors to our fabulous country are somewhat confused and misguided when a BG says: " This is my sister".
Less than likely they are not biological sisters as in the Western hemishere. This is related to the fact how Thai society is build up and is derived from the words Pisao (older sister) or Nongsao (younger sister).
Moreover, I have the feeling that BGs use 'sister' to simulate a closer relation to her friend like:
Compare: 'Do you want to buy a drink for my friend?' with 'Do you want to buy a drink for my sister'.
With which one would feel 'more obligated' to part with your money?
Hope to have cleared this up ........

Right, vaginas are usually referred as 'nongsao' and males usually use 'nongchai' to refer to their organ.

I'd suggest the second girl buy her own drink or find her own farang to buy it for her. The use of familial terms to describe people who are not family members is probably useful societal shorthand as an outline of shared values of responsibility, authority and status. However, I'm a farang and am by choice outside those rules at least as long as I'm not getting the benefits of them. If I'm only burdened with the expectaions and obligations, then I'll stick to my own people's rules. No drink for you!

This thread turned out to be very different than I had imagined when seeing the post title.
Just to let you all know (fess up) that on Monday I took back to my hotel a sister who turned out to be not quite a sister, if you get my drift.
Bad combo of dusty lenses, too much beer and the most amazing breasts I have ever encountered!

in some parts of Asia, the word "sister" is used to address transexuals or Katoeys as we call them in LOS.
