I belong to a number of forums & receive multiple newsletters. I recently received the below. I was wondering what other members thinking was on this. As for me, I always treat women with respect, regardless of their "class" standing.
Thais have a saying: If you play with a dog, it will lick your face,"
which is to say that if you treat those beneath yourself as equals, don't be surprised if they lose respect for you and start taking liberties. Farangs, coming from egalitarian cultures, don't usually clue-in to the fact that Thailand, like the rest of Asia, is strictly class-divided. Bar girls (prostitutes), rank at the very bottom of Thai society. The girls know where they stand! They are perpetually amazed and amused by how much respect farangs give them. As far as they are concerned, if you are cavorting and carousing with the likes of themselves (whores), then you are not worthy of respect and they
don't give you any! Anyone with any knowledge of Thai manners will immediately notice the contempt these bar girls openly show us. For example, you may think it's a nice affectionate gesture when she rubs your head at the bar.You think it's funny if a bargirl says 'Give me
tip' or 'Kee-niao'(=stingy) to you. Wrong! She would never dare say this to a Thai male. It's extreme mpudence that no Thai man would tolerate!

hello all
Before my 1st trip to Thailand I learned thru this forum that rubbing or touching the head shows disrespect to the person to whos head you are touching. However I frankly don't care about the lack of disrespect that TG maybe paying to me when giving me a head massage in a bar or something. I just like getting them and I really don't care what other think of me.

I agree with your sentiments, but in this case, although not bright enough to include the quotation marks, AlterEgo WAS quoting, so I think the P and W words were correctly left in.
That said, the author of the quote brings up an interesting point, to which AlterEgo adds NOTHING.
He (the original author) is correct, IMHO, that bargirls are near the bottom of the social ladder in Thailand, and given their origins, are not likely to behave in the most (Thai) socially acceptable way. ÝAnd other Thais probably would NOT accept their behavior, which is why you never see Thai guys in the bar-beers and go-gos farangs frequent.
The point, however, is not about THEIR behavior, but about ours. ÝGood manners and kind behavior doesn't require reciprocation. ÝIt comes from your OWN set of values, and is a measure of your OWN character.
The author seems to imply that we should treat BGs like dogs, because they treat us in a way that no Thai would accept. ÝI say that if your values are so 'flexible' as to allow you to behave poorly, just because someone else does, then you have NO VALUES AT ALL.
Treating BGs the way you would like to be treated is a sign of maturity, and security in your own value. ÝNot to mention that the power balance is so radically tilted in our direction - imagine, a fabulously wealthy, world-travelled farang in a pissing contest with a poor farm girl.
If you ARE treated in an unacceptable way, vote with your feet. ÝBut be a gentleman always.
It's about YOU, not her.

As always, acting like an asshole.... must be in your character; you have missed the intent as well as the point. The point is: What are members thinking on this subject.... I know you are unable to think much due to the constraint on the blood supply having to travel through your asshole to get to the puny brain... Most folks were able to figure out the item was from a post that I received from elsewhere... DUH.... It even says so in the intro....

..I am aware of this but being a nice guy I am unable but to treat them with any disrespect in public but to make up for this I usally make it a point to fart on them before I send them home witch completly humiliates and subgigates them leaving them a snivelling mass of tears and mucous... you gotta keep'em in thier place so they dont get to up'ity
PS if I get bad service I will give them a dutch oven.. but then I have to dispose of thier body
