Well, not exactly experienced with bkk chat but met a few girls who I've met at ICQ.
I see some of them once in a while (movie. dinner).... very nice girls ... but no bargirls and getting them in bed could be a real challenge (haven't tried to yet) ...
But to be honest I meet around 5-6 new girls on chat and most of them are not worth it to date them ...

I have known and met some very nice ladies from Bkk chat. I have shared birthdays, Valentine's Day and other organized chatter ocassions with them. Some I have known for 4 years. The ones I have known are NOT bar girls... Do not make the mistake of assuming they are..... The ones I have had the pleasure of meeting were intelligent, attractive (some extremely so), and nice women. Lady Ann, you are one of them. 
Yes, of course there may be some that are not as nice but after you chat with them a while, it becomes apparent if they are not so nice. If you wish to meet some nice Thai ladies that you can share a dinner with, fun conversation, friendship, etc., then by all means take the time to be honest and get to know them. Believe me, there are many that I would have relished to have their attentions, but as I am so old and ugly, they just felt comfortable and friendly with old P'John.

Quite a few of us want a sraight Thai GF for a permanent relationship. As westerners we also want a realtionship where sex is an activity taking place as a part of the courtship when the couple finds out whether they/we are compatible or not. I have made some experience in the past with the dating agencies in BKK, and found it very rewarding. I recomend Sweetsingles and ThaiNo1 for this purpose. Sweet singles is a personal experienc ebut ThaiNo1 is from feedback. THe girls are sincere, goodlooking and appreciates that a meeting of cultural minds are to be made.
Obviously, by the end of the day (literally) it comes down to the dreams and wishers of the lady and not the agency.

I used to use BKKChat a lot, to "practice" my basic thai (Karaoke style- i.e. phonetically). I chatted to lots of people although to be honest they were mainly girls.
Most of the people I "met" in BKKChat seemed like normal, honest, well educated fun people and I think it is a useful way to gauge the level of English Language skills of Thai friends.
I met my TGF via BKKChat and thus perhaps have a particular view of it as a result. I do know that I probably would have found it difficult to have met her (or someone like her) any other way without actually living in LOS for an extended period, given that she is well educated, has a good professional job and comes from a conservative family.
I had always had a negative view about the type of people (both M and F) who begin relationships via the internet (to be honest I have previously thought that such people were either hiding something or had very poor social skills).
I think Liftoff has it right in that those of us seeking a GTG for a relationship on a non-commercial basis have fairly limited options unless we are fortunate enough to be based in LOS for an extended period.
It is still fairly early days for my GF and I so it is difficult to know how well things may turn out. I have found the issues of differences between thai and western culture to be fairly difficult to acclimatise to (e.g. meeting parents at a very early stage in a relationship, assessing when it is ok to touch etc.) but at this stage things are going very well.
So overall I would recommend BKKChat as a great way to meet possible new friends (which was my original starting point, not a search for a relationship, sex etc.). Although I dont use BKKChat myself anymore, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to others providing they have the right attitude and aims.
