While I know that money is what they really want, is there some little, inexpensive, trinket I can give that would be appreciated? I did a search, and found this thread, but chocolate was really the only idea that appealed to me.

Bringing trinkets to the natives.. thought that went out 100 years ago.
Almost anything that you can get in America or Europe you can get in Bkk ..
What you need to find are items that are expensive in Bkk and relatively cheap in Am. and Eur. Frankly there are not many things that fit this.. so much of what we buy in the USA comes from Asia in the first place ..
I have found that buying quality soaps on sale seem to be a decent gift.. I buy quantity at places like Costco and then break bulk in Bkk .. the girls like nice soaps and you can also use them in your hotel/apt when they shower, rather than the dinky little soaps that most hotels provide ..
Places like Walgreens, Rite Aid, Longs (CA) often have sales on glycerine soaps and small containers of shampoo, conditioner, etc.. also at Xmas you can often find small collections of small bottles of perfume..
If none of that works then try shopping at the local gold store in Bkk. .. a one baht gold chain would be appreciated too ..

I will tell you what really knocked the girls off their socks. I took a side trip to Nam and brought back laquerware. That seemed quite special to them and boyo boy did I get repaid 10x its value.

I know you are just joking, but I didn't mean to draw parallels to American history. I was just looking for something inexpensive and easy to carry.
Almost anything that you can get in America or Europe you can get in Bkk ..
I was looking for a piece of large luggage to fill up with inexpensive Polo knockoffs, possibly a custom tailored suit, etc... to bring home. One of the pieces of luggage I liked said "Made in Thailand." At that point I decided it would be better to buy extra luggage when I get there!

An amusing outtake from a phone discussion with my TGF last night.
Balls: "SawatdeBKup teelak"
TGF: "Sawatdeeka"
TGF: "Box come today!"
I had sent her a "care package" with odds and ends of stuff just for fun.
Balls: "So what in box?"
TGF: "Soap, book, photo, spoon, not know how to say [Qtips], CD ..."
Balls: "chorp? [you like]"
TGF: "Chorp mahk mahk. Kop khun Ka!"
Then a slight pause followed by ...
TGF: "Teelak, why you give soap?"
I had sent her some nice smelling French milled soaps.
TGF: "You think I smaew [smell] baad?"
Balls: "No, no! These French soap. Kao jai French soap?"
TGF: "Kao jai laeo, ka! You think I smaew bahd?"
Balls (laughing): " No, smell good mahk, mahk. My teelak smell good. But I send because I think you like!"
TGF: "Okay"
Then we chat for another tens minutes for so, and as we are getting ready to say our fairwells and hang up:
TGF: "Teelak?"
Balls: "Yes?"
TGF: "You think I smaew baad?"
You get the picture ...

On my last trip I just picked up a couple of Beanie Baby bears for my friends. They were blue with little American flags sewn on the side. They liked them. I think they appreciate anything that's demonstrably American (or wherever you're coming from). As in most gifts, it's the thought as much as the gift that counts. Maybe a book of photos from your local would be a nice gift as well?

i stick with my soft toys gifts.
yes soft toy's are available in LOS, but they seem to like anything bought from outside the Kingdom.
one of my regulars has a lot of toys and had them arranged on the dressing table on her rooom.
on the last night of my last trip,i went into a Go-Go and gave 2 regular's a little toy each and they were thrilled.
took them with them when they danced and i had other girl's approaching me asking about them,they wanted a toy as well.

I was told buying shoes for a girl is a no-no, in most Asian cultures it means that you want them to "walk away from you". I was also told perfume means that they smell bad and most TGs dont use perfume anyway. You never know what allergic reactions the girls may have to perfume and since LOS is so hot, you dont want to get too heavy of a perfume either.
As seubeu said, the items that seem to work are stuffed animals and smaller items, a more expensive item would be nice but if they dont like it, they are stuck with an expensive paper weight. Smaller items with more meaning goes further (1 girl I knew, I called her "Loma" as in "Pla-loma" (dolphin) as a nickname since her forehead was so wide - she loved this), anyway, I gave her a keychain of a dolphin with her real nickname "Win" personalized underneath (cost me less than $10) and she loved it and still uses it today for her house keys. She always shows it off to her friends and her friends want me to give them a new nickname and also want a personalized keychain.
Save the expensive presents when you are serious and know exactly that is what they want. Also, another item that works for me is sleepwear (not lingere) from Banana Republic, Ann Taylor or Victoria Secrets.
