Almost all Thai girls I’ve met (be it bar girls, freelancers and regular women), while holidaying in Thailand, always commented to me that:
TG: “Thai man no good ka” or
TG: “My samee beats me, he comes home drunk at night” or
TG: “Thai man choo chow (butterfly) ” or
TG: “Samee left me for another woman and stole all our money. I have baby to support, so I work in bar now. Khow jai mai ka?”
Sometimes a mix of some of them and in a couple of occasions all of them!
Are Thai men that terrible or is it just a parlance from Thai women to play the sympathy card with gullible farangs thus milking more money out of them?
I remember listening fascinated to my (Thai) male tour guide in Koh Samui discussing the merit of farang tiraks as opposed to Thai ones. I was sitting in the passenger seat of his pick up car and he was quite keen on having a blonde farang girlfriend and asked me a few questions. In return I asked him how he did go about with local girls and he said (with pride in his voice) that at end of a date if the woman doesn’t consent to sex then he would punch her in the abdomen and soften her up a bit so that in the end she becomes his lover. He made it quite clear that this is a widespread tactic among Thai men if the girl doesn’t initially bend to their wishes.

Thailand is a fast growing economy. Not all the income comes thorugh tourism (Sex Tourism) nor all the income contributed by females only. So thai men should be apriciated too. I will never go on the statement of a female working in a particular profession. I think just becouse a bar girls husband is not good doesnot means all the husbands are bad. Remember this is a Land of smiles and land consist of daughters and Sons both.

Wow. That would be quite impressive...if it weren't for the fact that all degrees are handed out by a member of the Royal Family and that duty is divided amongst them.
It's common knowledge that the least preferred individual from which to recieve one's diploma is the Crown Prince (for reasons known to those who know about such matter but which cannot be gone into here). Obviously the greatest prestige is gained from having it handed to a graduate by his majesty the King but Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is much prefered over the heir.
Some graduates have been known to go to great lengths to ensure they got their diploma from a certain individual and not another.
As for the OP, there is some truth to both views: yes, it is sometimes a case of people telling others what they want to hear, but it is often the truth (for quite apparent and verifiable reasons*). Obviously, it can also be both at the same time.
*This would of course be based on a generalization on the part of the Thai females and like all generalizations, not entirely just or accurate.

Lots of BS from the BG about Thai men almost as much BS as when they tell me, I'm hansum man, sexy man and they no like young man like old man like me.
From somewhat reliable sources many thai guys hit their women. Cuts across all levels of education, status.

the *thai man is bad* mode is sometimes also used to persuade you, that a bg really likes you.
i know many tg who do not like farangs and only want thai boyfriends. and there is girls swearing by farang (also non-bg). same same but different.

I wasn't trying to draw anyone into any sort of conversation: I was responding to your apparent attempt to boast of your GF's credentials which was based on either a fallacious understanding or an attempt to decieve.
I think I'll post what I like -- on the rare occasion that I do -- and take direction on whether it is appropriate or allowed, from BK (or perhaps a larger proportion of the membership).

No..generally thai guys are not that bad....I think someone pointed out that BG's come from the same socio-economic background as some bad sorts of men.

The Thai men I have worked with over many years are fine decent people, as are all the Thai men I would call 'friend'

Back to the thread. As mentioned before there is both bad and good in both classes of society. Just so happens that most of the people (women) that tourist visiting the bars see are from abused situtations.
My wife is from one of those. I'm sure that all Thai men are not bad. In fact I know several through working here that are very traditional in their way of thinking and treating women. However the comman (tourist) doesn't normally associate with these indivuals. IMO I think that most of the Thai ladies are treated as second class citizens and considering the class that most of the BG come from there is a tendancy for the men to abuse them more due to a lack of self estiem for they know that the women can make more money than them using their body.
I have been in alot of the smaller towns and you don't see so much the physical abuse but you see other types where the women do all of the work and the man gets drunk.
When you think about it, men just like to always have a prettier, cutier, younger, girl with them. They are just more open about it here than in the other world.
