Hi all,
Thanks ahead for the responses. I called my TG yesterday and realized that her English on the phone is almost nonexisting. I can't use body language or smile like when I'm with her. I only know a few words of thai so that doesn't help much. What would be the best way to communicate with her? I don't think I can learn thai unless I decide to live there. How do some of you members out there communicate with your TG lover?

Seriously it can be very difficult. What will make it eaven more difficult is that a thai lady(if she is not a professional BG) can be very shy. The first hours and days she will only smile and giggle back to you.
If you are serious abouth the girl put here in a scool to learn some english. Thats what I did on my third date with whats my wife today. 2 years in an english scool in Thailand. hat helped a lot.

You have 3 options:
1) Learn the language, if you really want to have access to lots of TGs and have more fun.
2) Get her to learn English, but that's going to take some time as well.
or
3) Find another one that can communicate with you.
#1, is still my choice, and decide to live here!

BK what do you believe is the best way to learn Thai for a guy that is in LOS for periods of maybe 1 month 2 times per year.

Try communicating by e-mail (I'd recommend setting up a special a/c for this). Thais often know a lot more English than they're comfortable speaking - & of course the phone can be impossibly difficult. If she can't write & has difficulty reading English, it won't be hard for her to find people to translate both ways for her.
One of my BGFs has very poor spoken English - almost as bad as my Thai (although she's slowly improving). Even so, we have quite frequent & lively exchanges by e-mail, and this makes all the difference. I've learned a lot about her - her personality, her life & how she thinks - this way. When we meet, we can concentrate on... er, more important things.

I agree with Arcadius.
I met a very sweet and very nice TG in Pattaya, earlier this year and rather than support her financially, I sent her to a local school to learn PC skills and to take English lessons.
In the past 4 months, there has been a noticable improvement with her language skills and she is feeling very proud of herself. İ
Although she can not read and write English that well yet, she will improve very soon. İHer emails are very enlightening and inofrmative and I truly believe she enjoys going to school. She is 27 years old...
I did tell her initially that if she did not attend school on a regular basis, or was not a good student, I would stop paying for the lessons...
So far she has only missed 4 lessons in about 70 hours. Not bad.
I keep in touch with the school and they are very pleased with her attendance, her attitude towards learning new skills, and her overall progress. So am I.
Although I İhave no intention of marrying her and carrying her off on a white horse, I must admit I do feel nice and warm inside knowing that I am helping her to maybe, just maybe, change her lifestyle...
I can tell by her voice that she has more confidence in herself. I shall continue to support her in this way, But I made it quite clear that I will not send her money, and to be fair, she has never asked for any (yet). If she wants to get out of the trade she is in, then she has to do it by herself. I will give her some of the tools to help her, ie better education , but as I said it's "up 2 U".
Plus there will be fringe (or is it minge) benefits for me when I see her (my little school girl) again. İShe made it clear that she will make me very happy man 
I may even write a FR about my up cumming trip...
By for now, İTGL2 and good luck with your TG.

I'm going to follow BK advice and live here for 18 months.
I've seen ads for cdrom based course. Have your girl video tape thai tv, childrens programs. They speak slow, simple thai. Many vcr in LOS records/playback US tv signal.

Linguaphone could be an option. I haven¥t tryed it my selfe. But Phil from Bangkokmouth.com reccomend it. You can see his opinion here.
