Ah yes, English classes. Why not a bachelor's degree? I think many here would like to believe that their girls are victims of society with no choices. So who here thinks their girl would go legit if given the "opportunity?" *'opportunity' in the Issan language means... 'big fat westerner.' Further... what kind of salary would it take for her to quit the life, my big fat honey baby? 15k? 30k? 45k a month? Let's say 30k a month. That's about the salary of an average middle level manager at say Bangkok Bank (sub branch or branch manager), Central (department manager/buyer), etc. So... if say your BARGIRL wasn't able to make ends meet at her job as bank branch manager at Bangkok Bank, Ladprao 122 Branch.... would you be concerned that she'd resort to turning tricks on her lunch break? Now, I'm not saying I've sent hundreds of MP or BGs to college. But I have supported two at UTTC (Haw Karn Kar). The good news is that you might only have to do so for 1-2 terms... because often, they just can't cut it (even with 100% support from you). And hello, even if you can cut it at school, doesn't mean you're going to be able to cut it at a legit job (or even get a job). Sometimes it's not a question of opportunity or having been born poor. Often it's an issue of poor attitude.

Often it is not a question to know if it will work or not. It is just that the guy wants to do it (to feel better about his own behaviour ?). How often is the initiative from the girl ? I would say very rarely. So when you give people things they did not request, chances are they will not appreciate. Some of the girls earn decent money, enough to start their own business, enough to work only part-time and go to college. But this is not sanook. You have to ask yourself why they were in the bar in the first place...

I've heard of some girls mentioning it (they'll complain or mention how they have a low level of education or are trying to get back to school). Ý It's (IMO) bait to trigger the 'knight in shining armour' gene that most guys have. Ý In reality, it's just to get the guy a little more hooked. Ý It buys just a little more time. Ý For a class of people who live hand to mouth and day to day... a little more time... a little more time... it's logical to them. Ý

Packripper, These are true words! To name an example I have in my country seen so many TGs from the sex business getting married to a falang and get supported by him. Some of them even managed to get a job thanks to their husbands. Almost all of them return to the sex business occasionally, do quickies in between while just making the common excuses towards their husbands such as visiting friends or taking advantage when their husband is at work or not at home. There is no need for the most of them to do so, but they can just not resist the extra money and since they were doing it previously, it is not a bad thing for them. In addition this is some extra money to send home to their families. And then once again we are getting back to the point that most of the time you can take the girl from the bar and... and what Thai buddhism says on the subject of prostitution.

although many TGs go to Uni ... albeit part time, e.g. rhamkhamheng for maybe a couple of hours a day, 3 or 4 days a week, and likewise many go to English schools, I note the morning, 9am sessions are never popular ..... also of course, many BGs have unfortunately left school at 12\13, and it is just beyond their comprehension to step back into school\study full time ... as it would be for many of us now ! having said that, qualifications to seem to abound in LOS, many check out girls will have degrees in mathematics for example, - and be happy to have a job, which incidentaly pays around 8000 bt per month - plus any shortcommings in the till, DEFINATELY come out of your pay packet !

Jaggsbb, BGs (I am not talking of girls locked in brothels) are usually there on their own will and because it is an easy way to earn money. Nobody forced them and many poor people survive without selling their bodies including single mothers. Bandit example is a good one, even when they have an husband and financial support they still do it because in their eyes it is not a big problem. It is a mentality, very difficult to change it. You cannot "save" them because most do not even realize that this lifestyle is not a "good" one. They will just listen to you politely and take the money but inside they are still the same and ready to go back to the bar at anytime. If one wants to help people that need it, IMO there are better causes than BGs.

I have (or rather had) a TG in Pattaya, she'd often send me emails telling me how she doesn't like working in a bar, shes a good girl, etc. I was pretty much brushing it off as BS to try to get me to save her, but now it looks like she may have been telling the truth... She just got a job with DTAC in Bangkok. We'll see how long it lasts, but it looks like she's trying to go legit. Makes me wonder a bit as to what else she has been telling the 'truth' about? In any case i've got respect for her, just for trying, and i hope she makes it...
